Optum is seeking an experienced healthcare expert and consultant who can leverage their broad industry experience and actuarial expertise to drive sales and growth for its Payer Actuarial consulting business in the health insurance payer market. Expertise is needed in any and all of the Commercial, Medicare and Medicaid lines of business. This position is responsible for the identification and sale of large scale consulting opportunities for actuarial consulting services as well as other Optum consulting services, tools and Optum operational solutions. This role would also e responsible for the development and sale of consulting solutions in collaboration of other Optum experts and leaders in the multiple areas of payer and provider consulting including Operations, Health Management, Systems Integration, Analytics, and Financial & Risk Management.

This role requires executive level relationships with leading payer clients and a proven track record of sales and business development performance in healthcare consulting. The role will also require an ability to be a credible industry expert to represent the wide array of technical and strategic services that Optum has to offer its payer clients.

Primary Responsibilities:

Sales / Growth Leadership (60% / 75% Time Allocation):

Leverage your personal network to identify new clients and expand existing client business in the Payer markets, as well as opportunities in other healthcare markets

Leverage and collaborate with Optum actuarial and other personnel as appropriate in the pursuit of sales opportunities

Achieve sales consistent with organization targets and individual / team quotas

Develop proposals and statements of work for client engagements. Lead the RFI, RFP and sales process

Lead the development and closure of major client engagements involving cross Optum solutions

Complete financial analysis and develop client business case for proposed solutions

Define contract terms and conditions and pricing models for new solutions, including value based contracts

Assist in building consulting marketing and sales collateral

Establish trusted partner relationships within Optum to expand the Optum Payer Actuarial and other Optum Consulting footprint Facilitate development of business segment and enterprise level planning and program objective setting

Obtain high client satisfaction scores (>90%)

Develop and maintain client references

Identify and develop consulting offerings, products and services solutions that align with key market needs and or client initiatives

Client Engagement Delivery (40% / 25% Time Allocation):

Perform a billable role to clients in oversight of large scale projects / programs. Large scale programs are defined as high cost, high complexity and / or high risk

Serve in an advisory role to clients on business strategy, operational effectiveness and healthcare best practices

Ensure utilization rate and billable revenues are attained annually

Provide strategic input to the development of program roadmap and timelines

Create a team oriented work climate that enables professional development and encourages creative solutions and strategies

Support the management of resources within programs

Support program communication plan and execution

Require that quality assurance methods are implemented within the program

Provide status updates and review of programs to senior leadership

Provide coaching and mentoring to consultants with the goal of developing and retaining talent within the organization

Required Qualifications:

10+ years working in a Professional Consulting Organization, performing large deal sales and consulting services to strategic external clients (individual deal size $500,000 / $1M+ with total sales of $5M/$10M+ annual)

10+ years of responsible, hands on experience as an actuary for broad responsibilities for all actuarial and other operational health plan functions

15+ years extensive healthcare payer and / or related market experience

Demonstrated quota attainment in consulting sales and proven track record of 10%+ year - over - year client relationship expansion and growth

Existing network of C - level relationships with Payer and related market clients

Ability to think strategically, proven experience laying out strategy, developing products and / or services from ground up that are sold in the commercial market

Ability to speak credibly to current industry issues, regulatory and competitive challenges, and practices regarding Medicare Advantage, ACA / Commercial and / or Medicaid lines of business

2+ years experience with development and sale of complex, value based contracts and pricing models for consulting services

Proven problem solving skills (identification of issue, causes, solution, implementation plan)

Program management - strong complex program management, P&L management, large scale program oversight and delivery

Strong ability to influence and motivate

Experience writing and executing business plans for new consulting solutions

Ability to travel up to 75%
Preferred Qualifications:

Associateship or Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries

Previous role(s) with broad health plan responsibilities at the Chief Actuary or other C-level position
