Basic Function

To perform complex design, installation, upgrade, maintenance, monitoring, and security of the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) network, servers, and software products; perform computer forensics for audits and investigations.

Example Of Duties

  • Provides expertise and solution for all technical, planning, operational, and security matters concerning the OIGs network including servers, workstations, network cabling, network hardware and software and related peripherals
  • Monitors network servers and computers, diagnoses degradation in performance of the network, and performs appropriate and timely upgrades, repairs, or modifications of the system
  • Provides back-up processes based on state-of-the-art technologies
  • Tests, debugs, documents, and installs workstations, servers and applications
  • Consults with users in specified applications areas to determine information systems needs and solutions
  • Maintains and supports various information systems and technologies
  • Performs complex analysis and design of computer systems using information engineering techniques
  • Conducts audit and investigative computer forensic activities such as analyzing, and documenting forensic acquisition, supplications, retrieval, and capture of data; duplicating and analyzing the contents of mobile memory devices, and assisting OIG investigators in the analysis and interpretation of retrieved data
  • Develops technical and programmatic security assessments
  • Performs forensic audit and investigations of security violations, attempts to gain unauthorized access to OIG information, virus infections that may affect OIG network or other incidents affecting OIG security
  • Presents investigative findings both orally and in writing for determination of the prospective merits of the case
  • Ensures that digital forensic methodologies are consistent in order to preserve and protect evidence and satisfy audit standards
  • May be called on weekends or after designated regular hours in case of emergencies
  • Works with internal and external staff with regards to computer security, computer security violations, security policies and procedures development and enforcement

Requirements For Employment

  • Bachelor's degree Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field
  • 5 years of experience in the maintenance of computer systems, including at least 1 year senior-level experience in managing a network environment and 1 year senior-level experience in computer forensics
  • Microsoft Certifications desirable - Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE); Microsoft Database Administrator (MCDBA); Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP); Structured Query Language (SQL); Certified Cisco Network Associate (CCNA); and a Forensic Industry and product Certification

Knowledge:

  • Theories, principles, and practices of information systems management and specified application areas
  • Computer forensics principles and applications
  • Microsoft operating systems and applications
  • Microsoft Structured Query Language (SQL)
  • Computer hardware and data network communications equipment, and related peripherals
  • Computer applications and documentation standards
  • Overall network security and back-up processes
  • Applicable local, state, and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing information systems for a public agency

Abilities:

  • Analyze and evaluate the effectiveness of complex information and network security plans and processes
  • Perform proactive capacity planning in the server environment
  • Lead network-centric project implementation
  • Express technical information so that it is clear and easily understood
  • Define problems, analyze situations, conduct research, make recommendations, and implement solutions and alternatives based on network infrastructure
  • Understand, prepare, and interpret detailed software and hardware specifications and instructions
  • Interact professionally with various levels of OIG, Metro employees and outside representatives
  • Work with minimal supervision, initiate work-plans, and balance competing priorities
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Compile and analyze complex data
  • Plan, maintain, and implement Windows Server
  • Support and maintain Windows Client computers
  • Conduct detailed forensic examinations and digital evidence gathering
  • Implement and maintain line-of-business applications, e.g TrakEnterprise
  • TeamMate
  • Perform on-going reviews and analyses of methodologies, best practices, and hardware/software related to forensic and electronic discovery tools
  • Read, write, speak, and understand English
