VCU Health' System's Newborn Intensive Care  is seeking a  full time  Clinical Nurse to work in a dynamic Level III unit. Bachelor's degree and previous experience preferred; however, RNs and new graduates interested in learning about caring for preterm and critically ill neonates and their families are encouraged to apply. 


The VCU Health Clinical Nurse practices within the boundaries of the Commonwealth of Virginia regulations governing nursing. Practice is also guided by the ANA Code of Ethics for Nursing and established national nursing practice standards, as well as all VCU Health policies and procedures.

The Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at VCU Health is a 40 bed single family room NICU which serves as the regional referral center for infants born at the edge of viability and those born term or near term experiencing any number of congenital, medical or surgical diagnoses. This award winning NICU received the GE Imagination at Work Award in recognition of the outstanding unit design in addressing the needs of patients, families and staff and was the first NICU in the state of Virginia to be designated as a Beacon Unit by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, achieving the highest designation, GOLD.  Experienced, bachelor's prepared Registered Nurses as well as new graduate Registered Nurses are encouraged to apply.

 

Responsibilities

Integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet the needs of the patient and family.

Assists the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.

 

Provides direction, education, and begins to acquire leadership skills at the unit level.

 

Delivers and accurately documents direct, age-specific care to a patient or group of patients based on medical orders and an integrated, multidisciplinary plan of care.

 

Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.

 

*Completion of a Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program within 5 years of hire, if not currently BSN-prepared or higher, will be a requirement for continued employment.

*Completion of our accredited Nurse Residency Program will be a requirement for all new graduate nurse hires. This program provides transitional support during the first year of practice by fostering comprehensive, individualized preceptorships and guiding all new graduates along the journey towards successful promotion to Clinical Nurse II within the Professional Advancement Program (PAP) at VCU Health.

Qualifications

 

Required

 

Graduate of, or within 90 days of graduation from, an accredited RN nursing program.

 

Current RN licensure in Virginia or compact state, or eligible for licensure. All selected new graduate applicants must take and pass NCLEX within 90 days of graduation date.

 

Preferred

 

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from an accredited RN nursing program.

 

Academic Medical Center experience as a registered nurse.

 

Registered nurse experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of desired practice.

 

AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent.

 

Selected applicants will be slotted into appropriate levels for this position based on their experience and qualifications.
