Sales Director - THE PLAYERS Championship - PGA TOUR (Ponte Vedra Beach, FL)

We presently are searching for a Sales Director within THE PLAYERS Championship department. The Sales Director is responsible for designing and implementing effective sales and marketing strategies to identify new business opportunities and grow existing client relationships locally, nationally and internationally - as well as to increase ticket sales and daily attendance via marketing plan implementation.

Qualified candidates will have the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or related area required
  • Minimum of ten years of commissioned sales and event management experience, ideally in sports, event management, media or hospitality required; Golf tournament sales experience preferred
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office software packages to include Word, Excel and PowerPoint; Salesforce CRM experience is a plus
  • Thorough sales knowledge which includes prospecting, pre-qualifying, questioning, presentation, overcoming objections, conveying value proposition, listening, negotiating and closing sales


  • Achieve or exceed annual event revenue budget which includes renewal and upsell of existing partners and new business relationships
  • Lead THE PLAYERS sales staff to meet or exceed their respective revenue goals which includes to implement, manage and enforce accountability of staff sales activity and goals in CRM, lead weekly sales meetings to ensure achievement and professional development
  • Create annual revenue budget, complete quarterly forecasting and contribute to long-term revenue and net operating gain goals
  • Develop and implement strategies to drive sales which may include the research, review and maintenance of ongoing competitive market analysis including financial and demographic factors
  • Lead THE PLAYERS Championship partnerships with PGA TOUR Official Marketing Partners and Title Sponsors - from pitch/proposal through execution phases
  • Focus new business activity in regional, national and international geographies
  • Develop and execute annual hospitality and sponsorship sales plan - including, but not limited to, execution of evergreen partner communication plan and related sales and service tactics
  • Develop and execute annual ticket sales plan including development related to pricing analysis on primary and secondary markets, marketing and communication plans, as well as relationship management and execution with ticket distribution partners
  • Achieve networking and local market event appearance benchmarks and lead sales team to same
  • Develop and execute a professional sales presentation which conveys THE PLAYERS unique selling proposition and is customized with benefits to meet target audience goals
  • Provide Executive Director weekly evaluation of progress against set annual goals; reporting may include call report, prospect list and other sales related information
