Responsibilities

The National Security Agency (NSA) is a world leader in the protection and production of intelligence.  To ensure our capabilities stay at the forefront, we continually research new areas of technology and methods of extracting knowledge from data. NSA is seeking entry-level through highly experienced scientists and researchers in a variety of technical fields.  At NSA, you will work with the best and the brightest, using your technical skills to solve some of the Nation's most difficult challenges.  In conducting your research, you will team and collaborate across the entire NSA to bring new ideas from concept to reality, rapidly delivering solutions to mission partners, analysts, and decision makers. Problems addressed by NSA research range from short term (1-2 year), to long-term (3-5 year) efforts, involving many aspects of computer science, data science, social and behavioral science, signals processing and linguistics.

Research and create prototype computer and network system technologies. Forecast, analyze and recommend commercial and government-wide standards development, and push the state-of-the art through exploration, prototype and product/process promotion.

Skills

- Computer Programming: A strong understanding of C, C++, Java or Python is highly recommended. Experience with low-level programming or open source cloud tools is a plus.
- Software Development: Principles, methods and tools for designing, developing and testing software.
- System Design and Engineering: Principles, methods and tools for integrating components into a functional system or prototype.
- Software Analysis and Reverse Engineering of binaries
- Machine Learning and Data Mining working with large, complex data sets
- Visualization of large, complex data sets
- Research experience in speech processing, natural language understanding, sentiment analysis, etc.
- Signals processing
- Familiar with Social and Behavioral Science research methods

Qualifications

For this position, the following degrees will be considered:

B.S Degree must be in Computer Science (CS) or related field (e.g., Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Computer Security, Computer Forensics, Network Engineering, Human/Computer Interaction), or M.S. or M.A. in a Social or Behavioral Science field (Experimental Psychology, Cognitive Science, Sociology, Communications, Statistics, Political Science, Anthropology, Neuroscience), or M.S. or M.A. in Linguistics or a related field (Computational Linguistics, Applied Linguistics).

Salary Range:  $94,796 - $145,629 (Senior)

Entry is with a Bachelor's degree plus 6 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree plus 4 years of relevant experience or a Doctoral degree plus 2 years of relevant experience. An Associate's degree plus 8 years of relevant experience may be considered for individuals with in-depth experience that is clearly related to the position.

Degree must be in Computer Science (CS). Related fields (e.g., Engineering, Mathematics) may be considered relevant if the programs contain, at minimum, a concentration of courses in the following foundational CS areas: algorithms; computer architecture (not network architecture); programming methodologies and languages; data structures; logic and computation; and advanced mathematics (for example, calculus, discrete mathematics). Information Technology (IT) or Information Systems (IS) degrees may be considered relevant if the programs contain the amount and type of coursework equivalent to a CS major.

Relevant experience must be in computer systems research; simulation/model development and prototyping; software design; programming; computational science; algorithm analysis and design; reverse engineering; and/or designing/developing computer or information systems, including engineering hardware and/or software.

Salary Range:  $131,767 - $161,900 (Expert)

Entry is with a Bachelor's degree plus 9 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree plus 7 years of relevant experience or a Doctoral degree plus 5 years of relevant experience. An Associate's degree plus 11 years of relevant experience may be considered for individuals with in-depth experience that is clearly related to the position.

Degree must be in Computer Science (CS). Related fields (e.g., Engineering, Mathematics) may be considered relevant if the programs contain, at minimum, a concentration of courses in the following foundational CS areas: algorithms; computer architecture (not network architecture); programming methodologies and languages; data structures; logic and computation; and advanced mathematics (for example, calculus, discrete mathematics).
