Pharmacy Technician I - Inpatient Pharmacy

The Inpatient Pharmacy Technician I aids pharmacists in the preparation and dispensing of patient medications, sterile products, TPNs, non-sterile medications, hazardous medications, and ADC medications and supplies, and ensures the delivery of these medications to nursing units. Inpatient Pharmacy Technician I demonstrates competency on pharmacy technologies. When appropriate, this position trains new technicians, transporters, or pharmacy interns. Employees should be detail-oriented, patient-centered, and demonstrate strong moral character and evidence of alignment with Nationwide Children's Hospital's core values.

Schedule: (Full-Time, Benefits Eligible)

Day shift with some rotation to evening shifts, every-third-weekend rotation, and a holiday rotation.

Day shift hours between 6:00 AM to 4:30 PM

Day Shift Hours go from 0600-1430, 0630-1500, 0700-1530, 0800-1630

Evening Shift Hours go from 1230-2100, 1400-2230, 1500-2330 and 1600-0030

Responsibilities

    Demonstrate appropriate knowledge of and compliance with USP 795, 797, and 800 standards and other regulatory requirements, which allow safe and accurate preparation and/or compounding of unit-dose medications (both oral and IV), including reconstitution when applicable. This includes completing daily, weekly, and monthly documentation of completed tasks in designated record keeping systems
  • Fill unit-dose medication cart for daily delivery; deliver unit-dose medication carts on time and according to designated workflow; restock pharmacy work areas, pharmacy satellites, and ADCs with medications and supplies as needed; and inspect medication storage areas for expired or unusable medications pursuant to standards set forth by the regulatory agencies
  • Assist pharmacists in processing new medication orders and answering phones and provides accurate, safe, effective handoff to other team members
  • Participate in training new employees in the main pharmacy and limited specialized areas (when appropriate) and participates in the peer review process.


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensure:

  • Registered with the Ohio State Board of Pharmacy as a Certified Registered Technician or Technician Trainee (until application for Certified Registered status is achieved).

Certifications:

  • Certification by examination as a pharmacy technician (CPhT, ExCPT).
  • Pharmacy techs are excluded from being required to hold a Certified Pharmacy Technician Certification if they have a Pharmacy Intern license from the Ohio Board.

Experience:

  • Six months of previous pharmacy experience preferred.
