Research Technician I - Hur Lab

We currently have an opening for aResearch Technician Iin the lab ofDr. Sun Hurat Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Boston Children's Hospital. The Hur lab strives to discover new molecular principles that govern the fundamental processes of the vertebrate immune system, in particular self vs. non-self discrimination. We utilize multidisciplinary approaches involving structural biology, biochemistry and cell biology. This position is for an energetic individual with experience in genomic and transcriptomic data analysis. The goal is to identify new rules that regulate transcriptional and post-transcriptional processes during antiviral immune response and T cell development. More information can be found on their .

We are targeting curious, self-driven candidates who are passionate about the world of molecular biology, working with others, and have an innate desire for continuous learning. We are ideally looking for candidates who are interested in staying in this role for at least two years before moving on to their next opportunity.

What You'll Do:

  • Participate in specific research projects under the direct mentorship of one or two senior research staffs

  • Perform general molecular biology techniques (cloning, western blot, RT-qPCR)

  • Maintain cell lines and generate genetic variants using the CRISPR technology

  • Design and perform functional assays (biochemistry or cell biology)

  • Maintain and organize research tools and protocols

  • Create scientifically rigorous visualizations, communications, and presentations of results

  • Contribute to generation of protocols, publications, and intellectual property

  • The candidate will be expected to document procedures and collect data in an organized and complete fashion following the laboratory SOP.

  • Tissue processing for histology, and quantitation of various markers.

  • Collect, record, organize and verify the accuracy of data; perform calculations and prepare charts, graphs, and reports.

  • Participate in laboratory meetings and planning sessions. Review literature as needed to build essential knowledge of the lab's scientific area of focus.

  • Laboratory maintenance duties such as assisting with maintaining reagent and equipment inventories.

You Have:

  • Bachelor's degree. in molecular biology, biology, chemistry and biochemistry, or related discipline; or equivalent experience and education

  • Prior research experience in molecular biology and biochemistry - lab classwork is acceptable

  • Excellent communication, organization, and time management skills

  • Creative, organized, motivated, team player

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills, time management skills, and attention to detail.Ability to use good judgment in managing deadlines and responding to inquiries.

  • Strong enthusiasm to learn new techniques and expand your scientific knowledge.

  • Experience with tissue culture work a strong plus, but not required

Physical Requirements

Remaining in a normal seated or standing position for extended periods of time; reaching and grasping by extending hand(s) or arm(s); dexterity to manipulate objects with fingers, for example using a keyboard; communication skills using the spoken word; ability to see and hear within normal parameters; ability to move about workspace. The position requires mobility, including the ability to move materials weighing up to several pounds (such as a laptop computer or tablet). Work may involve possible exposure to malodorous vapors, low dose radiation, contamination by toxic chemicals and acids and presence of carcinogenic substances.
