Information Access is part of UMKC'S Information Services division and provides the following services to our customers:
- Custom responsive web application programming running locally and on cloud.
- Database server administration and performance tuning.
- Data integrations to third party systems and applications
- Migration and manipulation of data from legacy systems, PeopleSoft Finance, HR and Student.
Job Description
As a Database Administrator, you can expect to be involved with projects related to all of the above items. You will specifically be involved with:
- Monitoring and proactively maintaining a multi-server environment consisting of Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL and FileMaker.
- Design, develop, and implement secure and efficient database systems.
- Owning, tracking, and resolving database related incidents and requests.
- Reviewing service-related reports on a timely basis to ensure issues are identified and resolved timely.
- Developing, implementing and maintaining processes for server maintenance, back-up and recovery, and fail-over.
- Meeting with both internal and external teams to gather requirements for upcoming database needs, implementation of those requirements, testing and monitoring for specific functional and performance targets.
- Developing and maintaining documentation for maintenance processes, server configurations.
- Responding to database and data integration related alerts and escalations.
- Must be available for on-call support as needed, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be prepared to respond to critical issues and incidents at any time to ensure system stability and business continuity.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
- Four or more years of experience administrating Oracle database and Microsoft SQL Server, including the proficient use of Exabata, RMAN, RAC, Grid Control, ASM, Data Guard, and RDBMS technical tools to perform initial rootcause analysis and service restoration
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of data manipulation languages and the principles of database design.
- Demonstrable experience querying, programming and administering Oracle 12c or later and Microsoft SQL Server 2014 or later.
- Understanding of data management (e.g., permissions, recovery, security, and monitoring
- Good knowledge on performance tuning and query optimization.
- Excellent communication skills.
- The ability to write high-quality, well commented code.
- An ability to understand front-end users' requirements and a problem-solving attitude
- Ability to give occasional presentations to peers and other internal audiences.
Anticipated Hiring Range
Starting at $72,000 commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity.
