Responsibilities

Suncoast Behavioral Health Center opened its doors in 2014 and provides the highest quality of behavioral healthcare for patients in a safe, secure and nurturing environment.

Suncoast Behavioral Health Center offers a unique treatment programs across inpatient, partial and intensive outpatient settings for children and adolescents.

In a highly specialized field of psychiatry, our goal is to promote cognitive, social, physical and emotional development to provide individuals with the knowledge and skills to help our patients succeed.

The Hospital is looking for an Education Assistant (7:30AM - 4:00PM) for our adolescent residential treatment unit. The Education Assistant works year-round and assists in the education of students and administration of policies and procedures relating to all phases of education in accordance with current state and federal special education standards. Under the direction of the Principal, the Education Assistant provides students with educational and behavioral support that will enable them to continue learning while focusing on behavioral and mental health.

  • Collaborate and communicate with instructional and therapeutic staff to create a positive and responsive classroom culture.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage student behavior.
  • Develop awareness of each student's special needs.
  • Demonstrate consistent awareness for each student's safety.
  • Assist in maintaining documentation, data collection, and the instructional process as directed by the teacher.
  • Utilize knowledge and skills related to crisis intervention and verbal de-escalation in order to provide a safe environment for students, visitors and staff.
  • Complete tasks assigned by teacher pertaining to classroom environment, educational materials, and other operational functions in the classroom, i.e. grading papers, researching materials, phone calls, point sheet tabulation, etc.
  • Complete student enrollment, records requests, and discharge paperwork.
  • Provide administrative support to the education department, as needed.
  • Communicate with parents, school districts, and others who need student records and information.
  • Maintain all FERPA and HIPAA privacy provisions.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or its equivalent required. Bachelor's Degree in Education, Psychology, or Social Services preferred.
  • Previous work experience in education or behavioral health setting preferred. Experience with, knowledge of, or training in crisis prevention preferred.
  • Successful completion and maintenance of CPR certification, First Aid certification, verbal de-escalation, and Handle With Care (HWC) training. Must be able to participate in and complete Handle With Care Training on an annual basis.
