Position Overview
This is a position to provide both technical expertise as a SME and Leadership in the field of controls engineering. This position, by way of applying past knowledge and experiences using a wide range of engineering principles, provides leadership on the most complex technical issues for the process controls group in managing the support and project work for all unit operations in Hexion. This position works with the director of power and automation to manage a diverse team of technical specialists with significant work experience and significant amount of self-guided task prioritization and acquisition. The position must manage group activities to support process controls projects but use the same team to support day to day controls modifications and troubleshooting among 15 plants across North America. The position will also interface with project engineering to provide detailed controls support for all large construction projects and oversee direct management of controls related projects by the controls specialists. This position receives direction from the director of power and automation for detailing project implementation and regional boundaries. This position leverages the candidate's years of experience to ensure process requirements for new and existing products are met, improvements are made and organizational objectives such as waste reduction, first pass prime and low off spec batches are obtained. This position must be willing to maintain and create documentation of existing practices and protocols, create and propose programs for multi-plant system implementations and lead a multi-discipline team to deliver full value to Hexion on a long-term. Influencing skills are a must for this role and understanding the Network of inside and outside resources to manage a diverse team in a matrixed organization is a necessity to be successful. This position will be asked to work in a Matrix environment to collaborate closely with and advise different teams like Innovation, Commercial, Operations and Supply Chain. This is a remote position.
Job Responsibilities

- Communicate effectively with leadership, peers, and external partners to align strategies and drive initiatives forward.
- Collaborate with team members to collect and document maintenance and controls practices not currently documented.
- Maintain and increase the documented library of instrumentation practices for training and implementation.
- Leads in the Development and Implementation of Programs aimed at maintaining existing control systems and implementing improvements. This development of new Programs is initiated by the director of power and automation. The Candidate is expected to understand the Operational Network and provide programs and solutions for technical issues relating to control systems and instrumentation .
- Leverages a personal network of technical / non-technical resources that can be found inside or outside of Hexion with the sole purpose of getting the best possible solution on a Local issue that can be Leveraged to a Global group of plants.
- Demonstrates a strong knowledge of project management skills such as time management, resources allocation, progress reporting and capital management. The controls group is responsible for managing the projects involved in control system upgrades and large modifications and this position will be expected to oversee and participate in the design, oversight, and execution of these projects with the rest of the controls group.
- Demonstrates expertise in the programming and development of process controls systems, specifically Delta V and Rockwell automation products. These skills will be used to support the controls specialists in their activities in the plants and assist the director in advanced troubleshooting.
- Demonstrates expertise in programming and design of HMI interfaces for integrated systems such as Delta V as well as independent HMI systems like Rockwell FT View and Wonderware InTouch.
- Leveraging extensive product knowledge and process capabilities to work and lead the process discussion with contracted engineering groups on new process designs.
- Investigate and provide written technical guidance on deviations from expected production within Hexion's chemical processes as related to control systems and instrumentation.
- Capable of representing the team to Leadership on difficult technical issues in a clear and concise manner with recommendations to solve.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS:
- This position reports to the Global Director Process Technology COE.
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:
- The Scope of Responsibility will focus on the Resin and Formaldehyde production processes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Proven ability to work collaboratively and maintain strong interpersonal relationships in team-oriented settings.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and developing diverse teams.
- Ability to work with a diverse number of skill sets from detailed SMEs to general experts who may not have a classic education but possess extensive knowledge in their fields of expertise.
- Solid knowledge and practical application of process control methodologies.
- Ability to operate effectively in complex, matrixed organizational structures.
- Exceptional problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills
- Capable of networking within a matrix organization and working remotely.
- 7+ Years of Industrial Experience
- Must have good organizational and communication skills.
- Must have a working knowledge of ladder logic, sequential function charts, and block diagram programming styles. Knowledge of structured text will not be required.
- Capable of working with 3rd party engineering firms to represent Hexion during Front End Engineering efforts.
- BS Engineering, Chemistry or equivalent.
- Must be able to operate large Excel spreadsheets and develop PowerPoint presentations. Advance skills in Excel and intermediate skills in PowerPoint are required.
- Must be able to collect data and interpret it.
- Must have advanced computer skills.
- Travel can vary depending upon project location and requirements. Minimum expected Travel can be 30% or higher pending business needs at the time.

Preferred Qualifications
- Demonstrate project management experience especially FEL efforts.
- Personal skills with the ability to communicate with different layers in the organization from the business leads to local site personnel. Important to have the ability to relate with all types of people.
- Knowledge of the business with a broad technical knowledge of our current processes.
- Understanding the operation of Manufacturing Executions systems in the operation of batch processes
- Basic understanding of Batch control
- Understanding of navigating SAP
