Engineer in Training, Land Development

GHD provides virtually all the services that those from the private and public sector require to advance a land development or redevelopment project from an initial vision to reality. The majority of this work is channeled through our Land Development offices in Mississauga, Markham and Whitby. Within the Land Development Group, GHD has expertise in the upfront studies, planning, design and contract administration of residential and employment area plan of subdivisions, and of site plans.

We are looking for enthusiastic Engineer in Training to join our Land Development team in our Markham office . The selected candidate will be provided opportunities to work on-site as part of our field services team and in the office as part of our design team.

At GHD we are focused on the development of our entry-level consultants. We have ongoing opportunities for networking, training, mentoring, as well as exposure to different business areas and career paths. At GHD our interns and entry-level professionals are actively involved in a variety of projects that will develop their technical and professional skills.

Field Work Responsibilities include:



  • Document Site activities, track materials, equipment, and labour
  • Ensure compliance with municipal standards
  • Project Coordination - Coordinate with contractors and design team
  • Interpret engineering drawings and communicate details to contractors
  • Conduct surveys when necessary
  • Conduct quality control / quality assurance inspections for installed underground and above ground infrastructure (catchbasin, sewers, maintenance hole, water services, curb and sidewalk, asphalt)
  • Conduct deficiency inspections and compile inspection reports


Office Work Responsibilities include:



  • Assist in the preparation of reports, proposals, and memorandums
  • Drawing production in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Perform stormwater management calculations
  • Conduct capacity analysis of sewer systems
  • Complete watermain distribution analysis and modelling in EPANet
  • Preparation of cost estimates
  • General coordination and communication with clients, consultants, and various stakeholders


Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:



  • New or recent graduate of a relevant Bachelor in a Civil Engineering or related program
  • 0-2 years of experience in related field
  • Strong interest in consulting engineering
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Positive attitude and enjoys working in a collaborative team environment
  • Willingness to learn and experience new opportunities
  • Valid driver's licence and access to a road-worthy vehicle is required
