| Essential Job Duties |
Join the College of Veterinary Medicine's Equine Orthopedics Service and play a vital role in advancing patient care, teaching, and research. You will provide skilled technical support to veterinarians, students, and house officers in the diagnosis and treatment of equine orthopedic patients. Additionally you will get to assist with clinical procedures, patient care, and administrative operations to ensure high-quality service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians with examinations, treatments, and patient handling and restraint.
- Perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including lifting up to 75 pounds, standing for extended periods, and performing physically demanding tasks.
- Safely handle and work with equine and farm animals and to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Administer treatments, monitor patient condition, perform laboratory tests, and maintain accurate medical records.
- Support teaching activities by demonstrating and assisting students, interns, and house officers in clinical techniques and best practices.
- Maintain and track medical supplies and equipment, including repair schedules and inventory control.
- Perform administrative tasks such as scheduling, billing accuracy, ordering supplies, and monitoring flow sheets.
- Ensure compliance with Infectious Disease protocols and maintain a clean, safe working environment.
- Collaborate effectively with other hospital services to support seamless patient care and communication.
- Participate in the on-call and holiday rotation schedules as needed to support hospital operations.

Qualifications
| Minimum Experience/Education |
Completion of an accredited training program in the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Some positions may require additional Training, Certifications, or Licensure.

| Preferred Qualifications |
- Experience handling equine and farm animals in a clinical setting.
- Ability to work safely with or around sick animals, hazardous materials, anesthetic gases, zoonotic diseases, and cleaning chemicals.
- Demonstrated professionalism and effective communication in challenging or emotionally charged situations.
- Strong teamwork, problem-solving, and customer service skills.
- Competence using computers and electronic medical record systems.

| Required License or Certification |
- Registered Veterinary Technician in the state of NC.
- Successfully passed or be cleared to enter the MRI suite, according to an Occupational Health Screening.
- NC Driver's License is required and will need to be obtained within 60 days of hire and maintained throughout employment.
