  Job Description:

  We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Power BI Developer to join our client in the international development/financial services industry. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and optimization of business intelligence solutions using Power BI, working closely with business stakeholders and data teams to drive data-driven decision-making.

  You will have the opportunity to work with both on-prem Oracle data sources and cloud sources such as Databricks, and will be responsible for the full BI lifecycle- from data modeling and report development to optimizing and maintaining high-performance dashboards. Additionally, you will mentor junior BI developers and analysts, and help establish BI best practices and data governance policies across the organization.

  • Design, Develop, and Optimize Power BI reports, dashboards, and paginated reports for intuitive, high-performance analytics.
  • Work with business stakeholders and data teams to define KPIs, dimensions, fact tables, and data flows.
  • Develop and maintain semantic layers and star schemas to ensure consistency and efficiency in data modeling.
  • Collaborate on data extraction, transformation, and optimization using SQL (complex queries, joins, CTEs, window functions).
  • Work with on-prem Oracle data sources and cloud platforms like Databricks to ensure data is processed and available for reporting.
  • Define and enforce best practices for data governance, including security measures such as Row-Level Security, data masking, and access control.
  • Provide mentorship and architectural guidance to BI developers and analysts, ensuring BI solutions meet performance and security standards.
  • Drive the adoption of BI best practices across the organization, helping teams establish standardized approaches to data modeling, reporting, and security.
  
  
  
  
  

  Required Skills & Experience:

  
  
  
  
  • Power BI Expertise: Strong experience in Power BI report/dashboard development, including advanced features like DAX, Power Query, and Power BI Service.
  • Data Modeling: Solid understanding of data modeling concepts, including star schema, dimensional modeling, and semantic layers.
  • SQL Skills: Strong proficiency in SQL, including writing complex queries, joins, Common Table Expressions (CTEs), window functions, and data optimization techniques.
  • Experience with Cloud Data Platforms: Hands-on experience working with cloud data platforms, particularly Databricks, as well as on-prem Oracle data sources.
  • Mentorship & Leadership: Proven ability to mentor and guide junior BI developers/analysts and work collaboratively with business stakeholders.
  • Data Governance & Security: Experience implementing data governance best practices, including Row-Level Security, data masking, and access control.
  • Strong Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to analyze and solve complex business problems using data and BI tools.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders effectively.
  
  
  
  
  

  Desired Qualifications:

  
  
  
  
  • Experience with Power BI paginated reports and performance tuning of Power BI reports.
  • Familiarity with other BI tools or platforms (e.g., Tableau, QlikView) is a plus.
