Mechanic 1st Class-Millwright

Position Summary:

Perform all maintenance duties/needs in an explosives production environment for designated assignment area. Support all maintenance needs to the entire Carthage Plant staying within DNNA policies and procedures and safe working guidelines.

Reports to: Maintenance Manager

Essential Functions:

  • Demonstrate and/or lead the commitment to the pursuit of achieving Zero Harm through behavioral based safety
  • Ensure compliance with applicable HSE performance standards, objectives and regulations
  • Live and foster the IPL Corporate Values
  • Ensure compliance with applicable Company HSE Performance Standards, as well as applicable acts and regulations
  • Capable of working with petroleum based lubricants, various chemical solvents and chemicals with proper PPE.
  • Capable of understanding and using all safety equipment, including arc flash, machinery and tools' guards and PPE.
  • Proficient in the use of machine shop measurement tools and devices, including but not limited to tape measures, rulers, callipers, micrometers, dial indicators, protractors, squares, and bore gauges.
  • Perform preventative and predictive maintenance activities on plant production equipment and systems as needed or required.
  • Proficient in the use of shop arithmetic and mathematics for measurement and layout work
  • Capable of the safe and proper use of hand tools and portable powered tools
  • Capable of working from heights using ladders, platforms, or man-lifts with proper PPE and Fall-Protection

Decision Making Authority:

  • Limited to job performance decisions

Requirements:

Education:

  • High School diploma required
  • Trade School or applicable Military Training preferred
  • Journeyman competency status desired

Experience:

  • Prior journeyman/trade school/applicable military experience will take precedence.
  • Millwright certification with 5 years' experience desired
  • Production environment knowledge

Knowledge, Skills & Accountabilities:

  • Must satisfy the requirements for a "Possess of Explosives" as defined by the Bureau of Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

  • Ability to understand and operate basic plant machinery.

  • Knowledge of plant systems included in explosive manufacturing and chemical processes.

  • Ability to keep accurate records both written and electronically.

  • Knowledge of effective use of PPE in the workplace.

  • Ability to read and understand schematics

  • Ability to wear and care for applicable personal protective equipment (such as, safety glasses and shoes, respirator, hard hat and ear protection, safety harness) as required by site specific requirements
  • Capable of routinely lifting up to 50 lbs. Physical Capacity Performance Level 4.
  • Capable of working outdoors in all types of weather environments
