Position Description

Safely performs journeyperson level tasks in the fabrication, construction, maintenance, alteration and repair of fixtures, equipment, structures, buildings, and built-in components for Texas Tech facilities. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Perform daily preventive maintenance on HVAC and mechanical systems, including air handlers, exhaust fans, booster pumps, and steam systems.
  • Document all preventive maintenance activities and findings in computerized maintenance management software (CMMS), ensuring accurate records and noting any issues beyond the original work scope.
  • Communicate effectively with Operations personnel and campus customers to provide updates on preventive maintenance scheduling and system performance.
  • Maintain precise inventory records for shop stock, tools, and field equipment to ensure availability and accountability.
  • Participate in monthly facility audits to evaluate system life cycles, identify deficiencies, and support long-term infrastructure planning.
  • Ability to support Operations staff during campus events. (Power outage, inclement weather, etc.)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Strong understanding of building systems both interior and exterior. (HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Steam, Masonry, ETC.)
  • Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge with the ability to read a multimeter.
  • Experience with maintenance software is preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail is required.
  • Willingness to learn.

Required Qualifications

Prociency in written and mathematical skills as may be reected in the completion of high school or equivalent.

This position requires eligibility to drive TTU vehicles, including a valid U.S. driver license and two years of driving experience.

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.
