Overview

Heads Methodist Respiratory Care and Call Center staff to ensure quality patient outcomes, efficient cost-effective delivery of care, patient/family/physician satisfaction, and employee competence, retention and satisfaction.


Qualifications

Certifications:

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and
  • Licensed Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) - within 6 months of hire and
  • Neonatal/Pediatric Specialty (RRT-NPS) - within 6 months and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) - within 30 days and

Education:

  • Associate's Degree
    • In a CoARC approved Respiratory Care Program
  • Bachelor's degree - within 2 years of hire

Work Experience:

  • Respiratory therapy - 3 years

Responsibilities

Plans, coordinates and evaluates day-to-day departmental activities to ensure quality patient outcomes.

  • Assures staffing assignments appropriate to level of patient needs, staffs' ability & staffing targets
  • Attends report periodically on off shifts
  • Accepts 24-hour accountability
  • Ensures application of patient care policy and procedure
  • Ensures application of standards of care and positive outcomes
  • Evaluates care on all shifts by interviewing patients/families, reviewing patient documentation, seeking feedback from staff, nursing personnel, Nurse Managers, Nursing Supervisors, and physicians
  • Assesses workload assignments to ensure fair, reasonable workload distribution
  • Follows up on unusual occurrences/medication errors
  • Ensure appropriate documentation and notification of appropriate personnel
  • Demonstrates ownership and works with departmental support personnel
  • Facilitate patient and departmental outcomes (Nurse Managers, case managers, clinical nurse specialists, support service departments).
  • Monitors unit budget and financial performance targets to ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Demonstrates understanding of various unit expense and revenue accounts

Monitors unit accounts for variances to budget and flexible targets

  • Justifies variances to approved budget
  • Participates in development of annual capital and operating expense budget
  • Controls and monitors overtime and use of ET and extra hours
  • Submits assigned financial reports accurately and on time
  • Maintains knowledgeable of unit specific equipment and tracks trends in equipment utilization, breakdowns, etc.
  • Improves at least one patient care process annually

Identifies, implements, and monitors quality of patient care services via the quality improvement process

  • Improves at least one patient care process annually
  • Maintains patient satisfaction levels result in positive trend line
  • Ensures staff is able to verbalize key departmental quality improvement indicators and safety goals
  • Assists departments in meeting QI indicators
  • Implements care paths on appropriate unit patients and utilized properly 90% of time
  • Maintains unit specific QI are meaningful, measurable and targets are met
  • Ensures completion of unit specific QC, such as, O2 protocol, ventilator weaning, intubation documentation
  • Speaks to Mission/Vision/Strategic Plan and how their department is working towards meeting these
  • Identifies departmental goals, develops action plan and evaluates effectiveness & outcomes
  • Demonstrates knowledge of care path variances and how respiratory therapy impacts variances, takes corrective action to support meeting patient care needs

Interacts with staff, physicians, patients and families, and intradepartmental to ensure customer satisfaction

  • Maintains staff turnover rate less than 20%
  • Ensures staff perceive you to be fair, approachable, able to facilitate positive outcomes
  • Seeks input from physicians regarding satisfaction with level of patient care and/or quality concerns
  • Completes staff schedule weeks in advance
  • Fosters a culture within Methodist that promotes prevention, detection, and resolution of conduct that does not conform to established standards, regulatory requirements, and Methodist ethical and business policies.
  • Maintains staff/unit visibility, evaluates unit processes, team building
  • Maintains staffing needs by keeping contact with all 3 shifts
  • Keeps Director informed and submits written reports accurately and on time
  • Demonstrates support for departmental and institutional leadership and Methodist Health Service Corporation

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation range for this position is $42.72per hour - $73.48per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The actual compensation offered a candidate will be dependent on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's experience, qualifications, location, training, licenses, shifts worked and compensation model.
