OCCUPATIONAL SUMMARY:

Install, maintain and repair high voltage electrical distribution systems, facilities and related systems.

WORK PERFORMED:




  • Install, modify, maintain and repair electrical equipment and circuits including, but not limited to wire, conduits, ducts, transformers, switches, switchgear and protective devices in facilities such as electrical substations, vaults, pole lines, underground systems and related electrical distribution systems components.
  • Provide allied construction to include installation of telephone vaults and conduits, pulling of cables, and trenching and backfilling for street and traffic light installation.
  • Perform necessary duties incidental to the construction of underground duct systems including excavation, placing of precast manholes or vaults, placing of ducts and concrete, shoring, or sheeting, backfilling and landscaping.
  • Perform periodic preventive maintenance to electrical distribution equipment and associated circuits.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to lower-level employees.



Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

SKILLS:




  • Basic knowledge of electricity.
  • Basic knowledge of identification and application of the high voltage circuits.
  • Basic knowledge of equipment and component identification.
  • Basic knowledge of manholes and duct bank safety.
  • Basic knowledge of blueprint reading.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical schematics, reading and diagnosis.
  • Basic knowledge of one line diagram.
  • Ability to trouble shoot street light circuits.
  • Ability to properly use the bucket truck.
  • Ability to properly use the line truck.
  • Ability to properly use the cable trailer.
  • Ability to properly use the wirepuller.
  • Ability to properly use the trencher.
  • Basic knowledge of lighting control installation.
  • Basic knowledge of cable pulling for power and telephone.
  • Ability to install street lighting equipment.
  • Ability to install ductbanks for power and telephones.
  • Ability to perform periodic preventive maintenance to electrical distribution equipment and associated circuits.



PREREQUISITES FOR THE NEXT LEVEL:




  • Ability to splice high voltage cables.
  • Ability to terminate high voltage cables.
  • Ability to install transformers.
  • Ability to install switches.
  • Ability to test cables and high voltage equipment.
  • Ability to install electrical meters.
  • Ability to lead and work under pressure.
  • Basic knowledge of master switching procedures.
  • Receive training on proper use of multimeter and test equipment.
  • Receive training on installation of street light circuits.
  • Receive training on safety in the following areas: high voltage, low voltage, and street lighting
  • work.
  • Possess an electrical license or department certification.
  • Six years of experience in a high voltage environment.



Education

-Must have a high school diploma or equivalent

-Possess a valid North Carolina driver's license

-Received First Aid andCPR training

-Received training on the use of portable fire extinguisher

Received training on fire safety

-Received training on OSHA standards for lockout/tagout procedures

-Received leadership training



Experience

Must have 3 years of experience in a high voltage environment. OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
