Process Improvement Engineer Internship

The Clinical Transformation department drives large-scale innovation and operational excellence across Northwell Health. The team includes expertise in Operational Research, Improvement Science, Project Management, and Change Management. This role focuses on operational research, particularly discrete event simulation, while collaborating with other specialists. Using methods such as Predictive Analytics, Lean, Six Sigma, PDSA, and Discrete Event Simulation, the department optimizes healthcare delivery. As a Process Improvement Engineer Intern, you will support administrative tasks, projects, and research related to system operations, while collecting, preparing, and analyzing data for review and presentation. You will gain firsthand experience with the methodologies used to improve processes that impact patient care.
Responsibilities

  1. Participates in the collection and preparation of data relative to the work of the department.
  2. Assists in studies to objectivity ascertain the efficiency, economy and effectiveness of department or Hospital operations, policies and procedures.
  3. Assists management in facilitating new programs and/or procedures.
  4. Performs related duties as required. All responsibilities noted here are considered essential functions of the job under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Duties not mentioned here, but considered related are not essential functions.


Qualifications



  1. High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  2. Currently enrolled in an undergraduate junior, senior or graduate level program majoring in a related field such as Industrial Engineering, Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Operations Research, required.
  3. Prior administrative experience in a hospital setting, preferred.

Schedule and Location:

Hybrid role; Full-time, 40 hours/week

Duration: June 2026 through August 2026

Lake Success, NY
