The position develops text (SMS) messaging strategies for Society-wide communication and marketing campaigns. Responsible for managing text messaging (SMS) campaigns from conception to execution to analysis. Integrate text messaging with email marketing channel to increase constituent engagement. Collaborates with Society business owners and marketing team to produce quality, effective SMS marketing programs using Society standards and best practices. Ensures data management & integration in coordination with the Marketing Cloud Administrator to ensure cohesiveness across Salesforce campaigns.

Essential Functions/Responsibility

Mobile Marketing & SMS Strategist (30%)



  • Lead all SMS-focused projects, solution architecture, & design discussions.
  • Develop SMS channel strategy with Marketing Cloud Product Owner.
  • Develop mobile & SMS data maintenance & architecture recommendations with Marketing Cloud Administrator.
  • Develop & establish mobile marketing & SMS, text messaging best practices, including when & where to use SMS, & integrate with email marketing channel to increase constituent engagement.
  • Develop work effort estimates for SMS marketing campaign integrations & implementations.
  • Present mobile & SMS solutions for keyword & data optimization strategy & building a functionality (technology & data) roadmap.
  • Lead cross functional SMS communication use case discovery work across Society business areas currently using (or aspiring to use) SMS; build centralized transition plan for SMS sending inside Salesforce ecosystem software & data model.
  • Own, drive, & report on key SMS metrics; Strong strategy and analytics skills, with an advanced understanding of success metrics.
  • Apply research and project learnings to determine best practices for SMS, welcome journey, SMS and/or email engagement, and other engagement triggers.
  • Help build and refine constituent journey maps that document the constituent journey across different SMS flows. Analyze user flows to understand where the largest conversion optimization opportunities lie and provide recommendations to our extended team.
  • Ensure Society continues to maintain SMS & text message legal compliance.
  • Participate in creative planning sessions to develop new SMS concepts to test against current controls.
  • Analytics/reporting. Analyze/review campaign results to constantly improve constituent experience with SMS and marketing recommendations.



Manages Society-wide text (SMS) messaging campaigns to achieve optimal constituent engagement experiences (30%)




  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders and departments to create SMS marketing strategies to achieve specified goals for each campaign.
  • Manages day-to-day SMS campaign tasks including collection of necessary campaign elements, data requirements, track, place and manage content, and ensure tracking elements are in place.
  • Understands and leverages SMS metrics to optimize campaigns.
  • Creates SMS audience segmentation/targeting and manages list maintenance.
  • Executes and deploys multi-step Marketing Cloud Journeys - SMS messaging in partnership with Marketing Cloud Digital Production team.
  • Manages all SMS communication relevant data (import/export from other software, as well as within Salesforce Marketing Cloud)
  • Leverage data to guide content creation and optimize campaign.
  • Manages cadence of SMS communications- including Society managed campaigns, crisis communications, & daily SMS data maintenance.
  • Monitors audience/data health and provides feedback to appropriate channels when issues are discovered.
  • Builds templates, code SMS and run extensive testing, deploys innovative features to drive initiatives and expand reach.
  • Conveys content and SMS marketing best practices- training staff Society-wide on Marketing Cloud and Salesforce SMS, Mobile Studio Features.
  • Periodically assist Marketing Cloud Digital Production team with email channel development work including execution on email marketing campaigns.



Aligns and implements Society standards, processes, and procedures for SMS & Email (20%)




  • Implement tasks in alignment with Society's brand and technical standards.
  • Contribute to definition and ongoing updates to Society coding/technical standards, quality assurance standards and processes.
  • Data management- including weekly publication list sync, exporting from Marketing Cloud and other data platforms for QA, manual upload cleanup, etc.



Produce effective cross-channel experiences (20%)



  • Closely collaborate within/between teams to produce effective cross-channel experiences in support of Society strategic priorities and expected results and process improvement.
  • Participate in cross-functional work teams to define and develop SMS and/or email engagement strategies, as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned
