Introduction to the job

The mission of the Manufacturing Engineer (Electrical) is to design, develop, implement and maintain methods, operation sequence and processes in the manufacture, testing and troubleshooting of parts, components, sub-assemblies, final assemblies and systems. The position requires highly motivated, very organized and self-driven individuals. This is a hands-on position that requires working with Hardware and Software.

This position is for a Manufacturing Engineer (Electrical) that will work with Solid State Pulse Power Modules (electrical engineering experience preferred).

This position is located on-site in San Diego, CA. It requires onsite presence to attend in-person work-related events, work in the factory cleanroom environment, attend trainings and meetings and to further ensure teamwork, collaboration and innovation. Not eligible for Hybrid work schedule.

This position may require access to controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. * 730, et seq.). Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to access such controlled technology prior to beginning work. Business demands may require the Company to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.

Role and responsibilities
  • Develops, evaluates, and improves manufacturing methods and processes.
  • Improves overall system/module quality, test yields, and process cycle times.
  • Builds and maintains a high skill level in manufacturing engineering.
  • Estimates manufacturing cost, determines time standards through time studies. Makes tooling and process recommendations for new or existing product lines.
  • Applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
  • Coordinates Special Build activities between Engineering and Manufacturing.
  • Leads and/or participates as a member of cross-functional Teams.
  • Interfaces with design engineering in coordinating the release of new products. Evaluates the product design for manufacturability, quality, and reliability.
  • Coordinates Beta test software activities to flow through manufacturing.
  • Coordinates and/or implements change orders and deviation activities.
  • Participates in product reliability meetings and drives for resolutions of big hitter problems.
  • Investigates root cause of problems and implements containment and corrective actions.
  • May review proposals of outside vendors regarding the purchase of new or modernization of existing production/processing equipment.
  • Creates assembly, test processes and procedures.
  • Creates data collection schemes and build/maintain databases.
  • Prepares, analyzes and reports factory metrics
  • Develops / refines business processes.

Education and experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • 3 to 7 years of relevant, work related experience in Manufacturing Engineering or Electrical Engineering
  • Advanced experience using MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Visio)
  • Lean/6-Sigma experience
  • Experience using statistical software (JMP, Minitab, other..)
  • Understanding of BOM (Bill-Of-Material) structuring fundamentals.
  • Ability to create PCRs (Production Change Request), COs (Change Order) and TDNs (Temporary Deviation Notification).
  • Ability to translate, statistically analyze data, and effectively report problems through written and/or graphical formats.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical & electrical drawings.

Additional preferred qualifications:

  • Some experience with both Manufacturing Engineering and Electrical Engineering is a plus.
  • Ability to test & troubleshooting of electronic systems to Component level.
  • Green Belt certification.
  • Experience using one or more of the following software packages: MS Project, SAP ME, Oracle, Oracle Agile, TIBCO Spotfire, PTC Creo.
  • Experience with programming: LabVIEW, Python, MATLAB.
  • SPC (Statistical Process Control) experience.
  • DOE (Design of Experiments) experience.
  • pFMEA experience.
