Job Summary

The Engineering Test Technician supports product development, testing, and certification activities within a laboratory environment. Working under general guidance from test management and senior technicians, this role performs product verification testing, compliance testing, prototype support, troubleshooting, and documentation activities to ensure products meet design specifications and industry standards. The position also supports continuous improvement initiatives, maintains laboratory equipment and test environments, and collaborates closely with engineering teams to drive product quality and compliance.

Job Responsibilities



  • Support design engineers with product development activities, including component evaluation, prototype assembly, and product verification testing.
  • Execute product and prototype testing in accordance with approved specifications, standards, and procedures.
  • Analyze test results and document findings to verify compliance with performance requirements.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain accurate test reports, data records, and technical documentation.
  • Perform safety and EMC certification testing in accordance with applicable UL, CSA, and IEC standards.
  • Generate formal certification reports for submission to third-party testing and certification agencies.
  • Travel to accredited testing facilities as required to support certification activities.
  • Design, build, and maintain laboratory test fixtures, setups, and equipment.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair electrical and electronic circuits using engineering schematics and technical documentation.
  • Perform precision soldering of surface-mount components and assemblies.
  • Operate laboratory instrumentation including digital multimeters, oscilloscopes, power meters, thermometers, and data acquisition systems.
  • Assist with laboratory accreditation activities, audits, and compliance assessments.
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, facilities, and work areas in accordance with safety and quality standards.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance testing efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction.
  • Comply with all safety regulations, company policies, and industry requirements.


Job Requirements



  • Hands-on experience performing UL, CSA, and IEC compliance testing, particularly for Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) products.
  • Working knowledge of Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) design and operation.
  • Proficiency operating laboratory test equipment and accurately interpreting measurement results.
  • Experience designing and maintaining test setups, fixtures, and laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electronic and electrical circuits using schematics and technical documentation.
  • Experience with precision soldering of surface-mount components.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety.
  • Willingness to travel to domestic and international testing facilities as needed.


Education



  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience; or
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related field with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience.


Work Experience



  • Experience performing product verification, compliance, or certification testing in a laboratory environment.
  • Experience working with electrical, electronic, or industrial control products preferred.
  • Experience supporting safety and EMC certification testing preferred.
  • Familiarity with laboratory accreditation standards and audit processes preferred.
