This position will provide great experience in an academic orthopaedic surgery department with the mission of performing scholarly investigations while providing superior patient care and concurrently educating future surgeons.

Learn the research process at a large institution from experienced orthopedic researchers.

• Gain experience in in the surgical suite during orthopedic surgeries.
• Organize and participate in the development of scientific manuscripts, which could lead to authorship credits.

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Managing broad aspects of data collection in the surgical suite for research projects
• Assisting in statistical analyses and manuscript preparation and writing. Tracking and completing submissions for conference presentations (oral and poster), manuscript submissions (both initial and revision submissions).
• Under the supervision of the PI and Resident Research Coordinator, the candidate will perform and assist with various research projects related to musculoskeletal tumors, joint replacement surgery, osteonecrosis, prosthetic joint infections, and artificial intelligence/machine learning. Working with other surgeon trainees (students, residents, and/or fellows) on team projects.
• Maintaining proper training credentials pertaining to research projects, i.e, Responsible Conduct of Research training, CITI training, etc.
• Submission and maintenance of IRB approval and certification

Required Qualifications:

• This position is designed for a MD or PhD post-doc (preferred) with an interest in performing research projects and publishing the results of these scholarly investigations.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience and understanding of musculoskeletal diseases, tumors and disorders and the concepts of surgical care involved. In particular, knowledge in the fields of musculoskeletal tumors, joint replacement surgery, osteonecrosis, prosthetic joint infections, and artificial intelligence/machine learning.
• Prior experience with performing research projects in terms of data abstraction and gathering, database maintenance, statistical methods and data analysis, and institutional review board (IRB) requirements
• Prior experience with the peer reviewed process for publications in terms of scientific writing, the ability to support the development and execution of clinical and/or biomechanical study protocols, including an understanding of statistical analysis and publication of scientific research results
• The ability to learn and understand how to navigate and find necessary data within an electronic medical record, perform radiographic image measurements, etc.
• An understanding of anatomy, in particular musculoskeletal anatomy.
