Shift: Monday - Friday 0730 am - 1600pm

The following base pay range reflects the anticipated base pay for this position if a selected candidate were to be located in Colorado. Base pay may vary based on location and other factors.

Responsibilities

  • The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) II determines the acceptability of veterinary specimens for testing according to established criteria. They should be able recognize appropriate and inappropriate selection of lab tests and correlates lab results to veterinary patients' clinical condition.
  • Perform routine and high complexity pre-analytic, analytic, and post analytic phases of laboratory testing procedures and functions according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Understanding of test results to be able to determine if results are valid; or the result of pre or post analytical error.
  • Be an active participant in the ZRL Quality Management Systems. team in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Operations associated with laboratory testing, equipment, facility, and materials.
  • Assist and help lab management oversee the performance of the local laboratory team in Quality Control, Quality Assurance, and Operations associated with laboratory testing, equipment, facility, and materials.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make technical decisions regarding testing and problem solving.
  • Help direct the day-to-day job duties for laboratory assistants and/or Laboratory Technician I colleagues.
  • Report accurate and timely test results to provide quality veterinary patient care.
  • Perform and document instrument preventive maintenance, quality control, and quality assurance procedures.
  • Actively train and competency assess Laboratory Assistants and/or Laboratory Technician I as directed by the laboratory leadership. Maintain all appropriate paperwork.
  • Monitor, operate and troubleshoot instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
  • Monitor, identify and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary.
  • Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
  • Computer data entry and retrieval (Accession specimens, enter results, retrieve information).
  • Maintain a clean workspace, and laboratory.
  • Perform other duties as directed by Team Lead or Supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • An A.A.S. degree in Biology, Chemistry, or equivalent science field is required.
  • Medical Laboratory Technician, MLT (ASCP) certification is required. Equivalent international certifications also accepted.
  • Minimum 1-2 years' experience in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred.
  • Must have knowledge of how to perform a differential analysis of canine, feline, and equine blood smears.
  • Must have knowledge of how to perform a cell count and differential analysis of canine, feline, and equine sterile body fluid samples.
  • Must have experience in a clinical laboratory setting with knowledge of high throughput hematology, chemistry, immunoassay, urinalysis, O&P/fecal and related analyzers/diagnostics.
  • Must have experience with two or more of the following instrument lines is required: Automated Hematology Analyzers, Automated Chemistry Analyzers, Automated Immunoassay Analyzers, Automated Urinalysis Analyzers, and Automated and/or Semi-Automated Coagulation Analyzers.
  • Experience in two or more of the following areas in a clinical laboratory setting is required: Hematology, Clinical Chemistry/Endocrinology, Coagulation, Point-of-Care, Urinalysis, Parasitology, Microbiology, Serology, Specimen Management.
  • Must have experience with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) experience and general high comfort level with computer systems, technology, and equipment interfaces.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, develop and work within a clinical laboratory team, including creative problem solving and flexibility to meet rapid growth.
  • Strong customer service skills required.

PHYSICAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to meet the physical requirements that go with working in a lab - standing and sitting for extended periods of time, phone & computer use, extended reach, lifting to 30 pounds, and specific vision ability - close, color, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be flexible to work evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • This is a generalist position in a fast-paced veterinary reference laboratory. Candidates must be able to work efficiently and accurately in a busy environment and be adaptable to change. The ability to multi-task is crucial.
  • Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.
