Faculty Associate - Psychology

The School of Arts and Sciences seeks two full-time faculty members to deliver high quality learning experiences and education for students. The faculty member will engage in teaching activities and work collaboratively with colleagues across the University as well as with the Director of the Health Psychology program, Department Chair, and School Dean. Additionally, the incumbent provides mentorship to students. The selected candidate will have responsibilities teaching face-to-face courses to undergraduate students. Subject matters may include, but are not limited to, introduction to psychology, abnormal psychology, introduction to counseling theories and practice, lifespan development, adult development, health psychology, positive psychology, theories of personality, cognitive psychology, and research methods. Rank will be at the level of faculty associate.




  • Teach a four-course load of undergraduate psychology courses within the School of Arts & Sciences in each of the fall and spring semesters. These courses serve the Health Psychology major, the Health Psychology minor, and the University core curriculum. Possible courses include, but are not limited to, introduction to psychology, abnormal psychology, introduction to counseling theories and practice, lifespan development, adult development, health psychology, positive psychology, theories of personality, cognitive psychology, and research methods.
  • Provide students with a syllabus that includes course objectives and learning outcomes, teaching methodology, attendance policies in line with those of the School of Arts & Sciences, texts and other readings, assignments and deliverables, timelines, and evaluation criteria.
  • Provide engaging assignments that demonstrate the real-world applications of course concepts.
  • Use the University's learning management system to post syllabi, assignments, student grades, and other materials, and to communicate with students.
  • Advise and assist students through office hours or scheduled appointments, by videoconference, phone, or email, and through other University-approved mechanisms.
  • Provide informal mentoring of health psychology majors and minors, as needed.


  • Collaborate in the redesign of the introduction to psychology course to align with the American Psychological Association (APA) Introduction to Psychology Initiative (IPI) recommendations.
  • Meet with Health Psychology faculty to discuss program assessment outcomes and initiatives.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Dean or Department Chair.
  • Support incorporation of diversity, equity and inclusion into the curriculum, as well as co-curricular experiences, to broaden the education of students and expand their knowledge of health disparities.


  • A master's or doctoral degree in psychology or psychology-related discipline (must be completed by September 2022).
  • College teaching experience in relevant courses and evidence of teaching excellence.
  • Experience with student advising and degree programs preferred.
  • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a culturally and academically diverse student population.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Commitment to undergraduate education and student success.
  • Ability to mentor and advise undergraduates with diverse career interests.
  • Ability to be flexible and shift instructional format in response to short-term and long-term disruptions.
  • Ability to develop a course contingency plan to shift instructional format.
