General Purpose and Scope of Position:

The Logistics Transportation Specialist is an execution role who assists the Logistics Manager in third-party logistics (3PL) contract analysis, facilitating indirect sourcing of transportation, and the day-to-day 3PL relationship and management processes. This role will also provide support for the implementation and ongoing management of internal logistics programs and systems including our Transportation Management System (TMS).

Key Skills and Abilities Include:



  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations, or Related Discipline preferred
  • 2+ years of experience in the field of transportation and supply chain
  • Ability to evaluate the costs of transportation and 3PL work based on varied business models
  • Demonstrated understanding of transportation rules and regulations in North America
  • Ability to analyze and understand shipping routes and geographic footprints
  • Effective negotiation skills with providers, and a detail-oriented approach to documenting and tracking provider service agreements and usage
  • Demonstrated skill in building relationships with transportation providers and transportation/logistic managers of suppliers and customers
  • Experience with using and/or implementing a TMS
  • Strong analytical skills, problem-solving, and the ability to handle multiple responsibilities effectively
  • Experience with analytics tools such as MicroStrategy and Tableau is a plus
  • Ability to travel (up to 10%)

Specific Responsibilities and Key Deliverables Include:



  • Planning and Sourcing:

    • Support internal and third-party logistics capacity sourcing activities to meet business requirements with sufficient upside and downside flexibility.
    • Build upon the organization's 3PL contracting framework to identify, select, contract, and develop relationships with key 3PL partners to improve the abilities and efficiency of the provider network. Support ad-hoc field needs for new provider selection and assessment activities with the engagement of regional operations management and other key business stakeholders.
    • Create a 3PL tactical development plan for each key 3PL service provider encompassing a continuous improvement and innovation framework. Maintain benchmarking and ongoing assessment processes for 3PLs.
    • Manage daily engagement with service providers to help facilitate daily shipping needs and ensure overall fulfillment of contracted provider agreements.
    • Oversee vendor vetting and audit process for new & current service providers to ensure ongoing DOT regulatory compliance.


  • Process & System Support and Communication:

    • Help facilitate the daily processes required to manage the TMS system, including troubleshooting issues and managing the TMS freight rate & carrier data.
    • Provide project coordination and execution support as the TMS is rolled out across the company. Serve as a subject matter expert in TMS.
    • Develop and analyze logistics data reporting to provide key recommendations for field operations and management.
    • Build organizational awareness, understanding, and support for the adoption of best practices.
    • Support IT and other divisional projects to represent the logistics fulfillment needs of interdisciplinary teams.
    • Communicate the impact of changes in commercial, regulatory, or internal expectations related to Logistics to the organization.
