About the Job
OVERVIEW The Masonic Cancer Center (MCC) Clinical Trials Office (CTO) is an organization of professionals dedicated to meeting the needs of cancer center clinical researchers and their patients by providing exceptional clinical trial management services. The CTO has an $8.5M annual budget, of which $7M is an internal service organization. The ISO is made up of approximately 85 FTEs of clinical research nurses, clinical research coordinators, and regulatory specialists and has a large portfolio of 350+ clinical trials. This position reports to the MCC Finance Director with matrixed reporting to the Executive Director, Clinical Research, and is responsible for managing, reporting, forecasting for a large portfolio of CTO budget/financials, and monitoring and analyzing clinical trial financial metrics. This position will oversee all financial transactions of the CTO and field questions about policy and procedure. This position will serve as a reference for CTO Program Managers as they develop clinical trial study budgets, and will provide analysis of budgets vs. actuals for studies and for the ISO.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Clinical Trials Office Budget and Internal Service Organization (50%) * Manage the review, development, and implementation of annual ISO rates * Prepare, plan, and compile quarterly financial reporting for ISO activities; review with senior MCC/CTO senior leadership * Monitor open ISO invoices and follow up for payment * Manage the development, execution, and invoicing of CTO professional services contracts with MHealth Fairview and other organizations * Oversee annual budget development, monitor and forecast spending * Financial transaction approval; provide guidance on policies, procedures, and best practices * Monitor, reconcile, and forecast paid effort on clinical research studies
Clinical Trial Financial Analysis (50%) * Analyze study budgets vs. actuals * Monitor, analyze, and forecast ISO billable hours; develop, manage, and disseminate performance reports to key stakeholders and leadership * Provide financial guidance to program managers regarding study budget development, policies, procedures, and best practices * Track financial commitments to studies * Monitor studies with multiple funding sources * Track study deficits; partner with MCC/CTO and division leadership for deficit management planning and reconciliation * Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * BA/BS degree plus at least six years of experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Experience with financial management and/or budget development of clinical trials * Experience with grants and contracts * Familiarity with University systems such as PeopleSoft HRMS, EFS, UM Reports, ECRT and EGMS * Analytical skills, ability to gather, organize and present data in a meaningful way * UMN Certified Approver * Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and effectively to financial and non-financial audiences, both verbally and in writing * Demonstrated ability to effectively manage priorities, coordinate multiple assignments simultaneously, and meet deadlines * Demonstrated ability to work independently and be self-directed * Strong technical, problem solving and process improvement skills * Demonstrated knowledge of sponsors' fiscal/administrative terms and conditions. * Demonstrated ability to interact with people of all responsibility and experience levels within an organization and with external entities * Administrative/business experience at the U of MN or other academic setting * Demonstrated strong service orientation
