Duties

  • Provide technical expertise to the Division Director and/or Deputy Division Director, in the development, implementation, and oversight of new technology.
  • Provide technical expertise in the development of IT security plans to ensure compliance with CMS security requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise in the development of justification plans for IT projects following the CMS systems development life-cycle (SDLC).
  • Serve as a technical authority and program expert in research, identification and analysis of nation-wide level IT issues and Medicare FFS program vulnerabilities.

To qualify for an Information Technology Specialist (Security) position, you must have IT-related experience as described below. The experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate. IT-related experience must demonstrate each of the four competencies listed below:

  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

In order to qualify for the GS-14, you must meet the following: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one year (52 weeks) of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal government, obtained in either the private or public sector, to include: (1) Assesses and improves the overall effectiveness and quality of Medicare Administrative Contractor (MAC) system security requirements; (2) Assesses risks and controls associated with legacy and emerging technology systems, including cloud computing and related tools; AND (3) Serves as an authority with managing or fulfilling government contract requirements.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
