Senior Officer, Human Resources Business Partner (Hybrid)

Position Overview

As a member of the Human Resources team, the HR Business Partner contributes to Pew's mission in providing strategic advice, guidance and support to management and staff in Pew's domestic and international offices. The HR Business Partner supports the human resource needs of Pew's operational departments and programmatic portfolios to ensure alignment of talent with goals and objectives in a respectful, inclusive and

diverse workplace.

Your responsibilities would include:



  • Serving as the primary point of contact between staff and management and the broader HR department, the HR Business Partnership (HRBP) team proactively collaborates with and provides consultation to our internal clients on all HR-related matters including staff development, organizational structure and design, workforce planning, staffing strategies, staff engagement and concerns, HR policies, performance management, compensation, and general human resource questions.
  • Operating as a generalist for the broader HR disciplines and as a specialist on employee relations matters.


This position is based in our Washington D.C. or Philadelphia office. and reports to the Project Director, HR Business Partnership. This position is eligible for working remotely up to 60% of the time.

Responsibilities



  • Establish and maintain trusted relationships with staff and management across the organization as the first point of contact in human resources. Partner with management and staff of designated client departments to understand the team's work and to provide HR support aligned with the department's goals and objectives and the organization's mission and values.
  • Provide strategic guidance and direction to client groups in support of organization/department wide initiatives. Consult with leadership to proactively affect workforce planning/organizational structure, inclusion, diversity and equity, compensation, policies and procedures, employee relations, performance management and talent development matters. Work closely with management and staff to help support and foster work relationships, build morale and increase staff engagement and retention.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues. Lead and manage thorough, timely and objective investigations. Develop and recommend appropriate resolution steps as needed. Liaise with legal department to ensure practices are aligned with changing legal landscape and to partner on sensitive matters.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of HR policies and legal requirements relative to employment in Pew-based locations. Review and modify policies and procedures as needed. Partner with legal affairs colleagues to reduce legal risks and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Collaborate with HR areas of expertise in total rewards, talent management, talent acquisition and internal communications to provide excellent customer service.
  • Conduct new hire meetings and exit interviews, evaluate feedback and make recommendations for change and/or conduct further reviews if needed.
  • Participate in and lead projects to continuously evaluate and improve process, procedures, and service delivery.
  • Review and analyze metrics with leadership and HR to develop solutions, action plans, programs and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements



  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field or equivalent experience required, advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of ten years of related HR experience. Knowledge of and experience utilizing employee relations strategies and best practices.
  • Experience interpreting and facilitating the understanding of policies and procedures.
  • Experience consulting with and advising senior staff and working successfully as a member of a team and individually to meet goals.
  • Effective collaboration and communication skills essential for working with all levels of staff and leadership and broad and diverse audiences. Excellent team building, conflict resolution, group interaction and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated sound judgment and discretion in handling confidential matters required.
  • Experience managing multiple projects is beneficial.
  • Experience conducting research, analyzing data, formulating recommendations/plans of action, and representing ideas clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing.
  • Experience working in a non-profit environment preferred.
  • Proficient in all Microsoft suite applications.
  • SPHR or PHR certification preferred.


Travel: Occasional travel to Pew's offices for meetings may be required.
