Principal Engineer - Offshore Risk

The Lloyd's Register Maritime Performance Services (MPS) team is focused on providing our clients with trusted technical and business advice relevant to the ocean economy, including marine, offshore, and defence sectors. We have an exciting opportunity for a lead offshore risk specialist to join our team in Canada and the United States. We are open to employing individuals based in other global locations as well.

Your duties will include:



  • Provide consultancy services at a principal engineer level in areas relating to offshore risk, with a particular focus on risk assessment studies during all stages of the offshore asset lifecycle.
  • Lead LR's delivery of offshore risk services, including project management and execution, training/development of other engineers, and anticipation/understanding of future resourcing requirements.
  • Represent LR in high-profile client-facing meetings and forums on the topic of offshore risk. Provide clear and concise communication with clients and internal/external stakeholders.
  • Enable commercial team through lead/opportunity facilitation and bid support - being a trusted advisor who understands our client's challenges at an operational level
  • Ensure quality of LR's offshore risk deliverables through review of work completed both by LR staff and subcontracted groups.
  • Take personal responsibility for delivering own goals and targets, operating without supervision.
  • Pursue Continuous Professional Development while maintaining a very high degree of discipline, knowledge, and awareness. Take ownership for own development, seeking opportunities for self-development.
  • Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, accreditation schemes, legislation, and industry standards.



Key skill requirements:



  • Engineer with thorough understanding of the offshore domain: 15+ years' experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with standard analysis methodologies for execution of full offshore risk studies (HAZID, HAZOP, QRA, EERA, collision, smoke & gas dispersion, FERA, fire and gas mapping, cryogenic spill, etc).
  • Demonstrated experience in leading teams and projects related to offshore risk, including leading client-facing discussions.
  • Demonstrated experience with regulatory requirements in various global locations (Gulf of Mexico of particular importance).
  • Thorough understanding of related technical fundamentals
  • Deep understanding of relevant standards used in the marine and offshore industries



You will have:



  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in the English language. Proficiency in another language such as French or Spanish will be considered an asset.
  • Ability to travel nationally/internationally, including meeting entry requirements for client sites (mandatory full COVID-19 vaccination).
  • Driver's license
