Duties and Responsibilities
Job Summary
Responsible for assisting with various internal administrative and external donor-facing activities of the Office of Gift Planning within the Advancement Division. This position also serves as a resource for other fundraising staff concerning gift planning matters. The position reports to the Director of Gift Planning at Loyola University Chicago.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing the University's process for drafting written gift agreements, letters of intent and other legal instruments pertaining to donor gifts; includes interfacing with the University's Office of General Counsel and Office of Finance.
  • Assist in managing the University's process for receiving realized bequests and comparable gifts from trusts, estates and retirement plans; includes interfacing with estate attorneys/executors, trust and fiduciary representatives.
  • Assist in managing the Office of Gift Planning's relationship with external fiduciary vendors that administer split-interest gift arrangements for benefit of University donors.
  • *Assist in implementing strategies to increase lead generation from the mass marketing of gift planning opportunities to donors and prospects. Includes tracking and analyzing results of marketing initiatives.
  • Assist in managing stewardship activities pertaining to the University's Society of the Shield gift planning donor recognition group.
  • Administer the Office of Gift Planning's notification process for new gift planning donors, including data entry to create and maintain donor records and allocations to gift fund accounts via the University's donor data base.
  • Administer the Office of Gift Planning's process of renewing/maintaining registrations and licenses required by states for charitable gift annuity and general charitable solicitations; includes collaboration with other internal departments to assure the University remains in good standing.
  • Assist with creation of gift planning calculations and illustrations using gift planning software.
  • Interact with gift planning donors in the course of carrying out these responsibilities.
  • Work collaboratively with University faculty, staff, students and Advancement colleagues.
  • Participate in Advancement and other University events and activities as requested.
  • Regularly attend continuing education meetings necessary to maintain knowledge of gift planning structures/strategies and applicable tax, legal and financial concepts. Includes membership in gift planning professional organizations.
  • Support the professional growth of colleagues and create a safe, respectful, and inclusive work environment that is reflective of Loyola's commitment to diversity.

Minimum Education and/or Work Experience
Minimum Education and/or Work Experience

  • Bachelor's degree plus at least 3 years experience working in an advancement or similar program.
  • Must demonstrate strong capabilities in written and spoken communication, critical thinking, sound decision making, and problem-solving.
  • Excellent time, organizational and project management skills, and ability to take initiative and thrive in a collaborative work-setting, are required.
  • Willingness to learn and stay current on gift planning structures/strategies, applicable tax, legal and financial concepts, are also required.
  • Proof of COVID vaccination will be required prior to employment date.

Qualifications
Experience in a higher education, gift planning, para-legal, and/or personal finance environment is preferred.

Preferred Skills Include:

  • Strong MS Office (Word/PowerPoint/Excel/Teams) experience.
  • Some familiarity with Ellucian Advance or equivalent CRM donor data base systems.
  • Adept at navigating email, Internet, teleconferencing, electronic filing and other typical office-based software.
