PRIMARY FUNCTIONS



  • Competently maintains a combined cycle generating facility and all associated auxiliary and support equipment with some guidance or assistance. Follows all plant procedures, environmental regulations, safety procedures. Uses sound judgment in making decisions.
  • Communicates plant issues and keeps the Managers fully informed of unusual conditions, damaged equipment, and current job progress as it relates to facility operations.
  • Communicates work activities prior to starting activity and upon completion of activity.
  • Schedules and conducts required periodic and corrective maintenance on electrical equipment as well as troubleshooting and diagnosing problems.
  • Identifies and resolves problems. Performs calibrations and repairs to instruments, valves, etc.
  • Provides input to required daily, weekly and monthly reports.
  • Reads meters, gauges, or automatic devices to record data such as temperature of equipment, vibration of equipment, fluid levels, hours of operation, pressure, fuel usage, and electrical generation.
  • Visually inspects and listens to equipment at periodic intervals to detect malfunctions or need for repair, adjustment or lubrication.
  • Provides detailed status of plant conditions to management and/or CRO at/before shift turnover.
  • Repair, replace, dismantle and examine defective parts along with lubricating, cleaning, tuning and calibrating equipment.
  • Diagnoses cause of mechanical malfunction or failure of operational equipment.
  • Reads, understands and complies with all regulatory procedures and facility safety programs, and follows all plant environmental permits.
  • Performs general housekeeping and continuous improvement of the appearance of the facility, as required. Maintains the cleanliness of all areas of the plant, control room, and I&C shop, and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supports the use of a computerized maintenance management system by displaying a proficiency in using the system, entering data consistently, and dedication to the facility maintenance philosophy. Thoroughly records equipment problems on CMMS work requests and documents maintenance actions taken on work order forms. Handles corrective maintenance and preventive maintenance work orders in a timely and high quality manner. Shows diligence in documenting spare parts usage and re-ordering.
  • Participates in the administrative maintenance of the plant operating manuals, technical references, prints and diagrams and preventive/predictive maintenance records.
  • Participates in organized training functions (computerized and augment training through independent study).
  • Works dayshift, overtime, and irregular hours as needed to support reliable operation of the facility. From time to time, the working hours will be determined on short notice based on plant requirements, including working on shift. Will be required to handle emergency repairs.
  • Must be proficient in the operation, maintenance and repair of electrical switchgear, motor controllers, high voltage systems, and generator excitation fundamentals.
  • Complete other tasks as requested by the Maintenance Manager or Plant Manager.


  • Dependable, reliable and predictable attendance is required.
  • Must possess a valid, in-state motor vehicle operator's license at all times.


SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY

The I&E Technician operates from established and well-known procedures under minimum supervision, performing duties independently with only general direction given. Decisions are made within prescribed operating and casualty procedures and guidelines. The I&E Technician encounters recurring work situations of high complexity, with occasional variations from the norm.

The I&E Technician must perform work in a safe manner resulting in no accidents, in compliance with all environmental permits at all times. The I&E Technician must effectively communicate information to supervision and fellow plant personnel, relative to the condition of the plant equipment and performance, and provide suggestions for plant improvements. The I&E Technician must perform duties in such a way to result in an optimum cost-benefit ratio.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to understand procedures and instructions specific to the area of assignment as would be acquired in four years of high school. Graduation from an accredited Instrument Technician Program and two years' work experience as a technician in a related industry desirable. Four years work experience as a technician with increasing responsibility in a related industry may be substituted for the above requirement. Massachusetts Electrical Journeyman's License is preferred.

Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work well with others and be self-directed, as well as apply creative solutions to unique IC&E problems is desirable. Must be able to work from blueprints. Must be skilled in the use of hand and power driven tools. Must successfully complete an I&E test. Must have excellent organizational skills. Experience in working with voltages up to 4160 volts highly desirable. Must have strong personal computer skills.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Position requires extended working hours and varied shifts with the possibility of weekend and holiday work, as required by schedules, work load and plant conditions. "On call" status will periodically be required.

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. Position will require a pre-employment physical examination and random drug screening. There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
