Job Summary:
This position will be part of the Asset Management function within the Strategic Development and Acquisitions group and involve the preparation and analysis of generation plant performance, internal and external reporting, and review of financial information to assist in the analysis of the performance of a multi-asset portfolio within an assigned market region. Analyzing commercial activities and developing alternatives for revenue creation and assisting the department in achieving and maintaining best in class asset management services will be key functions. This position interacts internally with senior level management and externally with project partners, contractual counterparties, and third-party advisors.
Essential Job Functions:
- Ability to understand commercial transactions associated with capacity, energy, and related commodity trading and how the generating plants operate and transact in their respective markets.
- Demonstrate the ability to evaluate the benefits and risks of transactions in the energy markets.
- Understand key project documents including:
- Power off-take agreements and other hedging instruments
- Energy management agreements
- Partnership agreements
- Operational documents including long-term turbine service agreements
- ISO tariffs and business practice manuals and interconnection agreements
- Work internally with peers within asset management team and other groups within the organization in the areas of plant operations, finance, accounting, engineering. Serve as an external interface to the power off-take customers, energy managers and other contractual counterparties.
- Enhance the financial performance of Tenaska projects. Understand the way each project generates revenue, incurs costs, and realizes profit.
- Interface with project partners to communicate the financial and operating performance, provide guidance and recommendations for major decisions and facilitate necessary approvals to comply with provisions of the partnership agreements.
- Develop, generate, and communicate the necessary reporting materials to senior management for internal assessment of project performance.
- Analyze the major project contracts for ways to maximize revenue and reduce costs. Work within the confines of credit agreements and partner agreements to identify unrealized value from projects through additional revenue streams and reduced operating costs.
- Interface with our operations group to identify ways to optimize plant operations including plant modifications and improvement projects to add value to Tenaska and our customers. Help establish and manage fleet-wide plant performance monitoring program. Ability to understand engineering concepts and technical information is a plus.
- Ability to work with internal and external professionals, such as engineering, operations, finance and accounting, to construct and analyze financial and operating performance aspects of complex projects in an economic reporting model.
- Communicate extensively with our customers, energy managers, and partners to understand their needs and issues surrounding the performance of our projects. Understand the market conditions of our plants. Help customers and partners understand Tenaska's positions and find opportunities for shared benefits. Communicate and coordinate with Operations on any plant activities.
- Work with the asset management team to develop a fundamental view of the markets served by the projects and provide strategic long-term planning for those projects.
- Develop and/or analyze power plant performance models and plant operating parameters. Review operational test results, develop performance reports based on the results and adjust performance models accordingly.
- Reliable, dependable, and predictable attendance is a requirement.
Education/Experience/Skills
Basic Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree. Business, finance, accounting or engineering
- Knowledge of financial and business information systems.
- Must be able to communicate effective throughout the organization
- Ability to act independently.
- Ability to handle extremely confidential and sensitive company information.
- Excellent PC/Windows, Excel, Word, and database ability.
Preferred Requirements:
- 2-5 years' experience in energy industry or commodity trading field
- Knowledge of power and natural gas markets
- Understanding of financials, budgeting, and forecasting
- Ability to manage/optimize contracts
- Knowledge of power plant operations
