Position Summary:

The Structured Products Analyst works closely with Tenaska Power Services commercial teams and clients to evaluate market opportunities. He/she will utilize quantitative analysis techniques to value complex financial structures and to design, evaluate and propose hedging strategies to capture value. The Structured Products Analyst will have the opportunity to value vanilla options, spread and other exotic options, load following and other variable volume structures, and physical generation assets including renewable generation and battery storage.

The Senior Structured Products Analyst will help to lead the direction and work of the team. She/he will share in the responsibility for overseeing, managing, and completing requests, and engaging with clients and upper management to share the results of analyses.

Essential Job Functions:



  • Research, analytics and pricing for full-requirements deals supplied by Tenaska-owned or customer-owned generating assets, including all applicable proformas and valuation techniques.
  • Assistance with the development of in-house solutions for analytics related to structured products transactions, including load forecasting and load simulation, Monte Carlo simulations, portfolio modeling and scenario analysis.


  • Provide support for origination deals that require complex optimization or stochastic modeling, including modeling of the value of storage resources.


  • Develop modeling and valuation techniques for serving load with one or more renewable resources, and help with customers of TPS' advisory services.
  • Assist Trading, Energy Management and Origination with valuation of call/put options and heat rate call options.
  • Take on additional responsibility within the Structured Products team, helping to manage requests and organize activities. Learn to oversee a complex request from start to finish.
  • Act as a mentor to newer employees and train them on various systems, templates and techniques.
  • Assist Director of Structured Products in interaction with other TPS groups to coordinate efforts.
  • Dependable, reliable, and predictable attendance is a requirement.


Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:



  • B.S. in Engineering, Finance, Economics, or Mathematics required.
  • Excellent MS Access, MS Excel, and Visual Basic skills required. Experience with Python, R, or other statistical analysis programming strongly preferred. Experience with C# programming is a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of statistics required. Familiarity with time series analysis and simulation strongly preferred.
  • Electricity market experience is strongly preferred. Knowledge of regional electricity energy and capacity markets, transmission and ancillary service costs, environmental regulations, and market settlement is strongly desired.
  • Knowledge of market risk fundamentals and modeling, as well as options and other derivatives is preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively to a variety of audiences from colleagues to customers to executive management.
  • Solid ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment. Must be able to coordinate efforts on multiple projects simultaneously, and properly assign priorities.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical mindset and questioning attitude.
  • Proactive approach toward identifying and solving problems, and seeking challenging experiences.
  • Strong work ethic, team attitude, and willingness to work extended hours as workload requires.
