Position Summary

DEFINITION:

Under the general supervision of an administrator specific to grant, the incumbent will coordinate the implementation of a grant. The incumbent is responsible for coordinating the activities that support achievement of grant objectives as described in the grant proposal. S/he is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance and for the management of the project budget. The incumbent works collaboratively with administrators and staff in the business office and grants office to support effective project management.

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS:

This is a classified position. An incumbent in this position performs professional duties and is expected to make decisions concerning appropriate policies and procedures. The incumbent will be self-directed and will have frequent interaction with faculty, support staff, and administration.


The Phoenix Scholars Coordinator will oversee the Transitioning Gang-Involved Youth into Higher Education (TGIY) Grant. The work will entail developing partnerships to leverage services to support students in acquiring the knowledge, skills, and abilities to transition into an education beyond high school.

Objectives:
(1) utilize and enhance alternatives to gang involvement through education,
(2) utilize and enhance alternatives to the justice system through court ordered diversion education,
(3) address criminal behavior through restorative justice approach,
(4) increase partnerships with the juvenile justice system and local employers willing to hire and train AHC students,
(5) address criminogenic factors that may lead to gang affiliation, basic needs insecurities, and mental health distress
(6) ensure equitable access to higher education pathways.

Essential Functions and Qualifications

  1. Plans, organizes and coordinates implementation of the activities, services and operations of the grant project, including oversight of personnel and resources.
  2. Implements project objectives according to the timeline established in the approved grant award.
  3. Oversees and monitors grant project deliverables.
  4. Manages grant budget and monitors expenses for compliance.
  5. Collaborates with administrators and staff as necessary to manage budget and implement objectives of grant.
  6. Establishes and maintains accurate, timely, and completes recordkeeping processes, ensuring that grant reporting requirements and restrictions are observed.
  7. Communicates an informed understanding of the objectives and outcomes of the program to grant staff, administrators, other college personnel, and the grant program officer.
  8. Attends meetings required by funding source that may include out-of-state travel;
  9. In conjunction with the business and grants offices, coordinate, compile data, and prepare written grant reports.
  10. Works with an outside evaluator to implement the evaluation plan, data collection instruments, and participate in evaluation activities.
  11. If required by the grant, assists in establishing an advisory committee; serves as a member of the committee, coordinates meetings, sets agendas, and maintains meeting records.
  12. Collaborates with public affairs and publications to develop public relations materials and media information for distribution.

Knowledge of:

  • Coordinating and implementing programs in an educational setting;
  • Project management, budget procedures and financial recordkeeping;
  • Grant management and reporting preferred;

Demonstrates ability to:

  • Communicate orally, written and interpersonal skills;
  • Knowledge and ability to use a computer and typical office software;
  • Excellent organizational skills;
  • Work collegially with staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

A bachelor's degree or equivalent in an area related to the objectives of the project.


Additional Information

Desired start date is December 2022. This is a full-time, 37 hours per week, 12-month classified position. This position is contingent on continued funding.

*Please note this position works with transitioning gang-involved youth.

Hours for this position are:

Monday - Thursday: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
