Role Type: Full-Time. Seeking either fully remote or hybrid candidates.

Summary:

The primary responsibilities of the Linux Engineer are to monitor company Unix / Linux systems and applications performance and availability, develop new tools and procedures to make platform maintenance more effective and efficient, and identify automated processes. Additional duties include working with Application Development teams on system design and code deployments, resolving complex server/storage/system capacity issues, performance configuration, and providing security analysis implementations.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively monitors Unix / Linux system performance and availability.
  • Ensures that all supported systems are highly reliable, secure, and performing at acceptable levels.
  • Develops new tools and procedures aimed at making platform maintenance more effective and efficient, identifying processes that can be automated.
  • Ensures that processes and procedures are in place to perform system backups.
  • Assigns and monitors system resources such as disk space, processor time, and memory utilization, ensuring file systems are cleaned when it fills.
  • Provides 24-hour/7-day-a-week on-call support to problems as assigned, ensuring timely and accurate resolution.
  • Performs isolation and diagnosis of complex system problems, including root cause analysis.
  • Proactively monitors system performance and availability across Enterprise/platform level/applications.
  • Resolves complex server/storage/system capacity issues.
  • Performs application configuration tuning as necessary.
  • Communicates with vendors and other groups to determine project, technology, and business needs.
  • Updates and maintains system documentation and local procedures.
  • Supports software vendor to ensure application software is installed correctly and all current maintenance levels have been applied.
  • Implements and maintains monitoring infrastructure to provide relevant statistics to management on the performance/utilization of the production environment.
  • Performs various projects and tasks assigned by the manager.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent preferred, in computer science or related field. High school diploma (or equivalent) in combination with significant industry experience may be considered. Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent is required.

Basic Requirements:

  • 3 years' experience with Linux systems
  • Working knowledge of shell and Perl scripting.
  • Working knowledge of Apache, DNS, Active Directory, and Bind.
  • Experience with the usage and administration of an enterprise monitoring solution such as Nagios or PRTG
  • Proven experience with the principles of systems administration
  • Ability to work on a regular and predictable basis
  • Ability to communicate with customers, co-workers, and various business contacts in a courteous and professional manner
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Ability to analyze problems and identify alternative solutions
  • Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and handle multiple tasks
  • Ability to pay close attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills across multiple projects and team members

Preferred Requirements

  • Shell scripting or bash scripting experience preferred
  • Storage management (LVM) experience a plus
  • Network troubleshooting experience preferred
  • Experience with Kubernetes and containerized workloads preferred
  • Experience with a VMWare server environment and resource management preferred
  • Log management and analysis a plus
