This position is for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead a team of engineers to design, develop and support Single View of Customer (SVOC) data use cases and capabilities. In this role, you will lead one to two engineering teams and collaborate with product owners, TPMs, architects and stakeholders to iteratively build robust data features leveraging modern data technologies.

SVOC is a data engineering group that has built over 25 batch and streaming ETL pipelines and has operationalized data through a variety of data services. SVOC pioneered the GEICO ID data model which forms the backbone of our ability to stitch together siloed datasets and serve the resulting data neatly packaged to our consumers. Hosted in Azure Cloud, SVOC leverages modern technology such as Datastax Graph and Cassandra, Spark transformations via Databricks, Kafka messaging, GraphQL for data services (API), and Java/Springboot for our application development which is containerized in AKS.

SVOC's use cases impact a significant part of the business. Consumers of our data include CRM (Customer Relationship Management), Telecom, GEICO Data Hub, EDGE, Mobile, UWS, ATLAS (Accident Tracking Loss Assignment and Scheduling), as well as a few other groups. The SVOC data model is also fed to Snowflake daily for analytical use cases.

As the selected candidate, you will ensure features meet delivery expectations by participating in design discussions, assisting engineers with coding support, conducting code reviews, and ensuring solutions adhere to code quality guidelines. You will also have various department level responsibilities by leading committees such as data standards, data management, hiring, CI/CD, testing improvements, and/or production support, to name a few. You will be responsible for goal setting and completing performance evaluations on engineers, mentoring engineers on their career path, and coaching engineers to improve delivery quality and speed.

Required Experience:

  • Prior experience as a Sr Developer, Engineer or Architect is required
  • Must have very strong communication and project coordination skills as well as a proven track record of delivering features
  • 2+ years of experience in an IT leadership position or experience with managing and organizing technical projects
  • 5+ years enterprise IT experience across data engineering, software engineering, DevOps, or architecture roles
  • Working knowledge of ETL, data analysis, or object-oriented programming concepts
  • System level troubleshooting abilities crossing multiple applications is highly desirable
  • Proven experience in team building, collaboration, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Passion for delivering projects that exceed our customers' needs and for managing project timelines.
  • Experience with Azure DevOps is required
  • Candidates will actively participate in performance evaluations and goal setting for their staff and the coaching and mentoring of team members.

Preferred Experience

  • 3+ years of experience with big data processing frameworks (Spark and Databricks are a plus)
  • 3+ years of enterprise-scale application development (Java or C#)
  • 3+ years of data exploration, querying, or engineering experience with SQL and scripting languages like Scala or Python
  • Azure certification, at the associate level (Solutions Architect or Developer), or specialty (Big Data) is a strong advantage.
  • Knowledge of real time data analytics using Spark Streaming and Kafka
  • Candidates must have the ability & flexibility to support systems in our 24x7 environment

Annual Salary

$100,000.00 - $236,500.00

The above annual salary range is a general guideline. Multiple factors are taken into consideration to arrive at the final hourly rate/ annual salary to be offered to the selected candidate. Factors include, but are not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, the selected candidate's work experience, education and training, the work location as well as market and business considerations.
