About This Role:



The Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory (KSVDL) within the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Laboratory Technician. This position will support daily testing in the analytical laboratory. These tasks include but are not limited to: performing analytical testing, helping order supplies, updating daily logs, chemical inventory, and waste management. Employee will be expected to prepare samples for diagnostic testing following SOPs in place and in accordance with AAVLD guidelines independently and within time constraints.

Duties/Responsibilities



  • Sample Preparation and Analysis:

    • Preparing samples for testing (TQD, TQS, IC....).
    • Weighing of samples and extraction processes.
    • Setting up instruments for analysis, analyzing samples, and processing of results.
    • Entering of results for clients in online system.
    • Cleaning up after analysis.
    • Testing via ELISA, Spectophotometer, Microscopy, and other methods.


  • Assisting in daily quality AAVLD requirements:

    • Checking temperatures are in appropriate ranges.
    • Flushing the eyewash weekly.
    • Helping update standard operating procedures.
    • Filling out testing documentation.
    • Filling out solutions documentation.
    • Maintaining training records.


  • Assist in the daily operations of the laboratory:

    • Package and Chemical reception and filling out/downloading appropriate documents (CoA, SDS, etc).
    • Picking up and entering samples into the Toxicology laboratory both on paper and electronically.
    • Cleanliness as necessary (sweeping, cleaning equipment after use, etc.).
    • Transfer and aliquot of samples between labs, including on the Necropsy floor.


  • Waste Management:

    • Contacting EHS to pick up expired/used chemicals.
    • Removal of sharps containers.
    • Removal of hazardous waste for autoclaving.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture, Chemistry, Biology, or related field.
  • Previous laboratory experience, preferably in Chemistry.
  • Organization skills, time management skills, and problem solving capabilities.
  • Experience working within a set of pre-determined accreditation standards.
