Overview

PowerSchool is seeking an experienced, enthusiastic Engineering Manager for its ERP product.

This position, under the general direction of the Director of Software Engineering will be responsible for coordination, quality, and output of the Software Engineering team. This role will ensure the coding and testing of new features, maintenance of existing features, and reporting and accountability of team metrics to achieve the department and company goals. Additionally, this position will guide the gathering and refinement of requirements, design, develop, implement, test and document solutions to produce the highest quality product and customer satisfaction. This position will provide leadership and guidance to create a multi-functional team of top level, high-performing Software Engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Manages the work for a team of software engineers and is accountable for maintaining a high level of team performance
  • Drives all individual and team performance goals
  • Coaches and develops product engineering employees
  • Works to increase team efficiency and effectiveness to achieve long term goals
  • Participates in hiring of new team members
  • Performs any HR-related tasks
  • Ensures analysis of performance and development of improvements to performance of web application.
  • Guides implementation of new web application software features and products following best practices such as authoring of unit tests, writing maintainable code, applying established patterns and algorithms
  • Ensures development of software to support internal initiatives, tools, update framework and application functionality
  • Works as part of an Agile SCRUM team in the planning, scoping, estimation, and execution of technical solutions
  • Promotes a positive, innovative, and curious work culture
  • Other duties as assigned


Qualifications

To be considered for and to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

Qualifications include:
  • 8+ years' experience in software engineer role
  • 3 year's prior experience managing a team
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Information Technologies required, or equivalent experience; Master's degree preferred
  • Knowledge of current web client technologies including demonstrable proficiency with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery
  • Proficient in SQL
  • Familiar with OWASP threats and mitigation techniques
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong ability to work with current software design principles and concepts such as patterns, algorithms, data structures, dependency injection, MV**, SOA, n-tier architecture
  • Strong ability to manage a heavy workload with multiple projects and frequent interruptions
  • Strong ability to work in a changing, dynamic environment
  • Ability to hire, mentor, train, and coach employees
  • Strong knowledge of scrum/agile development processes

Nice to have skills
  • Experience with CI/CD tools and techniques
  • SDLC best practices including automation
  • Tomcat and IIS experience
  • Knowledge of .Net and/or Java development stack
