The Opportunity

The Associate Vice President of Product Development will be the leader and manager of all facets of new product engineering within the University. Reporting to the Vice president of product development and a necessary member of the Office of Product and Program Innovation (OPPI), the director of product development will oversee the successful development and release of new products and platforms, will form and lead a team of engineers, architects, DevOps, QA and tech support staff, will develop development processes and best practices, and will manage partnership with engineering vendors.

With 10+ years of experience in software development, you are deeply familiar with the latest technology stacks and can develop best-in-class solutions in an Agile environment. You have experience in bringing to market high-quality software solutions developed in a Cloud environment (preferably GCP) in design-first development lifecyle. You know how to build and scale Agile teams of employees and vendors. You are an excellent communicator.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • Build and coach a development teams, and oversee successful project delivery and application support
  • Validate the design, testing, and implementation of technical solutions from engineering partners, based on our requirements and strategic direction
  • Solution for technical cloud-native applications like, Google Cloud Platform, in a containerized / microservices architecture
  • Provide technical leadership to teammates through technical design, code reviews and implementation of best practices, to extend and improve all SDLC and RM processes.
  • Collaborate with Design, Product Management, and Product Strategy teams to develop, test and maintain the platforms, ecosystems and their integration with other services.
  • Assess opportunities for application and process improvements and prepare documentation outlining strategic platform roadmap.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, improve and enhance existing systems.
  • Establish relationships with technology and business leaders across the university.
  • Lead the relationship with external development partners, and implement effective communication and collaboration among scrum teams.
  • Communicate with all groups as part of product/project support

Minimum Qualifications:


  • 5+ years of experience in a Manager/Tech Lead capacity, guiding the team's development efforts towards successful project delivery and application support
  • 10+ years of experience in hands-on design and implementation of complex systems, including developing solutions from scratch
  • Experience integrating with third-party systems through building API gateways, creating REST based service interfaces to deliver fast, reliable and scalable integration.
  • Experience with GCP end-to-end cloud development, deployment, fine-tuning for scalability and performance.
  • Experience leading and coaching agile development teams to work effectively, efficiently, and with high morale
  • Experience implementing, adapting, and optimizing SDLC processes and agile ceremonies
  • Full stack business and integration/data tier development experience.
  • Experience with Enterprises level Ed-Tech solutions.
  • Working knowledge of fintech and healthcare Industry as it relates to consumer financing
  • Academic Degree(s) and/ areas of study:

Equivalent of experience in lieu of degree acceptable: Yes

We would like to see:


  • BS in Computer Science or related field
  • Object Oriented Programming and solid design experience
  • Experience using modern application/API containerization and container orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Nginx.)
