Lewis Roca is seeking a dynamic, creative, and highly collaborative Senior Business Development Specialist to join our Marketing and Business Development team. Summary:
This position will primarily support the Business Development function by leading and managing the development of RFPs, proposals, pitches, and ranking submissions; participating in a varying array of department initiatives, managing projects related to specific practice groups, and assisting with other marketing projects and business essentials of the department.
An exceptional ability to lead business and client development initiatives though collaboration and project management will be the key for this Senior Business Development Specialist position. You will work closely with our lawyers to identify and facilitate business development opportunities with other practice groups and geographies; support client relationship-building initiatives; and cultivate new business leads from existing clients or new prospects. This position may accommodate a hybrid schedule of working 2-days remotely, once fully trained.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Candidate should be self-directed, possess excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and be comfortable with creating and executing on a broad range of marketing and business development plans and initiatives. Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Take primary ownership in leading and project managing the development and drafting of RFPs, proposals, pitches, and ranking submissions, across the firm. This includes communication with key lawyers/stakeholders and liaising/collaborating with the business development team, as necessary, on each project.
- Collaborate with the business development team and other key stakeholders to develop, execute, and track various client development and cross-selling initiatives.
- Develop a deep understanding of practice groups and industry teams, including their services, expertise, clients, competitors, and cross-selling opportunities.
- Follow up with lawyers to track successes and capture (and help implement) best practices and lessons learned from prior pitches and proposals, event attendance, and client/prospect meetings to assist in maximizing ROI for future initiatives.
- Support the planning and execution of all business development initiatives and creatives for assigned practice groups and industry teams, and lead other department projects, often working with other departmental resources in marketing communications and events teams, as necessary, to deliver integrated marketing solutions.
- Collaborate with team members on execution of various department projects, or to identify best approaches and process improvements
- Identify developmental needs and take responsibility for increasing job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, and participating in professional organizations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Requirements:

This classification is full-time, non-exempt and will report to the Business Development Manager.
- Demonstrates effective, professional, client service driven interpersonal and communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to build cohesive working relationships with lawyers and advise on business development activities that produce profitable results.
- Strong project management skills, with impeccable attention to detail.
- Team player passionate about client service. Takes ownership of projects, knows how to fully utilize resources and consistently meets deadlines. Must be proactive, self-directed, and able to multi-task effectively in a fast paced and complex environment.
- Familiarity and ability to navigate market and competitive research platforms such as MonitorSuite, Lex Machina, WestLaw, and LexisNexis is a plus.
- Willing and able to "roll up the sleeves" and handle any aspect (from administrative to supervisory) of marketing and business development tasks as needed.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher).
- Flexibility to travel and adjust hours as needed to meet operating and business needs.
Education and Experience:
- A minimum of 5-8 years business development, sales, or related experience required.
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, business, or closely related preferred.
- Previous experience working in legal, accounting, consulting, or similar professional services industry preferred.
