Overview General Dynamics Electric Boat provides an unparalleled learning experience for college students, offering practical exposure in the defense industry alongside expert engineers, shaping the future of submarine innovation. Engineers at Electric Boat work collaboratively across departments and with our customer to develop innovative solutions for the United States Navy's nuclear submarines. As a Co-op Trainee, you'll be exposed to various engineering activities with the support of our senior staff. This program grants our trainees the opportunity to develop valuable skills and dive into cutting-edge projects such as leading the Columbia Class design and enhancing Virginia Class submarines. Every trainee will be exposed to a wealth of knowledge in order to excel in the engineering domain. This program requires a 4 to 6-month commitment during the Spring 2025 Semester. Participation in this program is in lieu of a course load / academic class schedule. This is not a remote opportunity and all applicants have the potential to be Placed at any of the following locations: Groton CT, New London CT, North Kingstown RI, Newport RI, North Stonington CT. Applicants have the potential to be placed in various Engineering Departments, such as: Platform Systems Engineering Software Engineering Ship Signatures Naval Architecture (Hydrodynamics, Hydrostatics, & Weights) Fluid Systems (Air, Water, Hydraulic, HVAC, etc.) Combat Systems Engineering Construction Support Engineering Test Engineering Propulsion Plant Structures, Shielding & Arrangements Propulsion Plant Fluid Systems Propulsion Plant Electrical Main Propulsion Machinery Hull and External Structures Internal Structures Life Cycle Engineering Pipe Stress Analysis, Computational Fluid Dynamics, and Shielding Analysis Solid Mechanics Qualifications Applicants should have completed a minimum of one year of college working toward a degree in Electrical, Computer, Mechanical, Civil, Structural, Aerospace/Aeronautical, Marine, Systems, Nuclear, Naval Architecture, Electromechanical, Robotics, Industrial Engineering or Computer Science. Other relevant engineering and STEM degrees are encouraged to apply.
