Position Overview

Execute planning and purchasing activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day activities related to tactical inventory planning and production planning.
  • Issue Purchase orders and/or work orders
  • Responsible for acting on purchase order releases action and exception messages from the MRP system.
  • Manage Supplier performance and Operations performance.
  • Expedites deliveries from suppliers and work order completion as required
  • Obtain technical information and data
  • Coordinate certificate of origin activities
  • Maintain purchase part data in the system (price, safety stock, MOQ's etc)
  • Follow ISO 9001 guidelines
  • Maintain regular communication with suppliers to keep current on all matters related to supply performance.
  • Obtain Purchase Order confirmation and follow up with vendors to ensure deliver dates.
  • Contact vendors and suppliers with urgent requests.
  • Monitor overdue orders and open requisitions. When necessary, communicate with vendors and operations to retrieve latest delivery information.
  • Ensure Purchasing documents are complete and accurate, and that terms and conditions are appropriate.
  • Submit new part specifications to established vendors and suppliers for bidding purposes.
  • Maintain accurate records, including price histories, and issues with current vendors.
  • Generate, meet, and report on shortage reports and supplier schedules.
  • Resolve scheduling conflicts and problems in conjunction with the Supply Chain and Purchasing Managers.
  • Propose adjustments and revisions to planning parameters such as designating order quantities, lot sizes, safety stock and min/max quantities.
  • Meet production and sales deadlines.
  • Other duties or functions as assigned by the Supply Chain Manager

Knowledge/ Experience Required

  • Knowledge fully integrated MRP purchasing systems
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated decision-making skills
  • Experience with "Low Cost Country" suppliers preferred
  • Individual must be a self-starter
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret simple instructions; ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints; ability to write correspondence.
  • General computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and ERP/MRP proficiency.
  • Ability to apply common sense, carry out written/oral instructions, deal with problems effectively and multi-task.
  • Ability to perform intermediate business mathematics and thoroughly comprehend the science of our Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) documents.
  • Associate's Degree or minimum of 2 years' of equivalent experience
  • Multiple MRPs knowledge: SAP, JDE and BPCS (preferably)
  • General computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), and ERP/MRP proficiency.
  • APICS training preferred
  • At least 2 years of experience in procurement as a Buyer or Planner
  • Minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated success in negotiations
  • No travel is required
