Position Summary
The Director, Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship Program is responsible for overseeing and directing the hospice and palliative medicine (HPM) fellowship program as well as providing inpatient and outpatient HPM care. This individual will also work closely with the family medicine residency program faculty and staff to coordinate and direct the education of our university's family medicine residents in the area of HPM.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Oversee and direct our comprehensive hospice and palliative care education and accredited fellowship training program.
  • Work with residency program faculty and staff to ensure that the program provides a high-quality educational experience for the fellow.
  • Direct the recruitment efforts for a HPM fellow each year.
  • Collaborate with local hospice and palliative medicine providers to provide the fellow(s) with hands-on training and experience in hospice and palliative medicine in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of hospice and palliative medicine-related lectures and educational materials for the fellow and, as appropriate, our family medicine residents.
  • Ensure that the hospice and palliative medicine education and training program meets continued accreditation and
    regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with other departments and programs within the university and sponsoring health system to promote interdisciplinary training and education in hospice and palliative medicine.
  • Provide clinical hospice and palliative medicine consultations in the inpatient and outpatient settings.
  • Develop and deliver educational programs for medical students, residents, and fellows related to hospice and palliative medicine.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
  • MD/DO or its foreign equivalent from an LCME-accredited medical college
  • Board certification in a related field (Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Medicine-Pediatrics) and board certification/board eligible in Hospice and Palliative Medicine
  • Unrestricted Illinois license to practice medicine in Illinois or Illinois license-eligible
  • Knowledge of hospice and palliative medicine education and training programs, including accreditation standards and regulatory requirements
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills, including managing multiple projects and priorities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate with fellow(s),
    residents, faculty, staff, and community partners
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and the ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse
    backgrounds and perspectives

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in hospice and palliative care preferred, including experience in an academic setting
