JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Grab Lab in the department of Entomology at The Pennsylvania State University is seeking a postdoctoral scholar researcher to work on the spatial ecology of pests and beneficial insects in agroecosystems. The successful candidate will design and conduct research at the intersection of data science and agroecology. Our lab investigates the role of land use, climate and pesticides on economically important arthropods including crop pests, their natural enemies and crop pollinators. The postdoc will have opportunities for cross disciplinary interactions with faculty from other units and will have opportunities to mentor undergraduates. Candidates with experience in spatial modeling and analysis are especially encouraged to apply.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Design and execute studies evaluating the interaction of climate and/or pesticides and land use on crop associated insect communities
  • Collect and analyze data
  • Present research findings at national and regional meetings
  • Write peer-reviewed scientific journal article(s) summarizing findings
  • Direct undergraduate research projects that contribute to the project's aims

This position will be located at Penn State in University Park, Pennsylvania with potential for remote work.

Minimum qualifications

Applicants are required to have a PhD or equivalent doctorate in Ecology, Entomology, Data Science or a related field. The successful candidate must have completed all PhD degree requirements by the appointment date.

Experience: experience mentoring undergraduate students, commitment to DEI, driver's license, experience with spatial analysis in R.

Skills: strong organizational, data analysis, and writing skills demonstrated by prior peer-reviewed publications; demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.

This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire with an excellent possibility of re-funding. The initial appointment term will be for 1 year with an additional year based on funding, satisfactory performance, and adherence to University policies.

Start Date: September 1st or as soon as possible thereafter
