THE ROLE

Under direct supervision from a Lead Mechanic, Equipment Maintenance Supervisor or Equipment Maintenance Manager, the trainee will service, maintain, inspect and repair vehicles, machinery and/or equipment to ensure the safety and on-going operation of all company vehicles and equipment. Mechanic Trainees typically work as junior members of the team and are gradually provided assignments of greater scope and responsibility. Upon successful performance, meeting the qualifications and supervisor recommendation, trainees may promote to Mechanic.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE, AND ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

Through experience and on-the-job training, performs routine preventive maintenance, inspection and repairs including but not limited to:



  • Basic tire work, including replacement and repairs
  • Basic electrical work, including light replacement and repair
  • Basic hydraulic hose replacement
  • Repair and replacement of small parts or components
  • Minor repair and cleaning of components as required
  • Preventive maintenance and safety inspections on company vehicles or equipment in accordance to company standards and policies
  • Attends work-related, skill-building training classes


QUALIFICATIONS

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to qualify is:



  • One year of related experience performing automotive repair. Graduation from a trade school may substitute experience.
  • Principles and practices of job site safety, potential job hazards, and state and local regulations.
  • Basic hand tools.
  • Basic Computer skills and programs.
  • High school degree or GED preferred.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Commercial driver's license preferred.

  • Work under pressure, handle stressful situations and maintain flexibility.
  • Maintain high levels of activity or productivity; operating with effectiveness, and determination over extended periods of time.
  • Understand safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Consistently build knowledge and expertise about current job.
  • Communicate effectively with peers, supervisors and customers.
  • Communicate on a two-way radio or similar device.
