Job Description:

MLT-Lab-Full-Time

  • Prepare, perform and record test procedures in accordance with established criteria as assigned.
  • Optimizes patient safety with minimal medical/health care errors in any or all the sections of the Clinical Laboratory.
  • Performs technical procedures appropriately and accurately relating to analysis of blood and body fluids
  • Performs specimen collection procedures as needed, i.e. phlebotomy collections
  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control and hazardous waste policies and regulations, following proper patient identification procedures
  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Maintains patient confidence and protects the hospital by keeping information confidential
  • Promotes good public relations and professional attitude for laboratory department and facility
  • Assists in departmental training of new employees and students
  • Participates in maintaining efficient productive workflow
  • Performs and evaluates quality control; reports abnormal results to supervisor as necessary
  • Maintain and prepare adequate level of supplies, reagents for testing; anticipate needed supplies; initiate order of supplies by ordering or notifying appropriate supervisor; verifying receipt of supplies, and rotating supply inventory as needed
  • Ensures operation of analyzers and other laboratory equipment by calibrating; performing preventative maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques
  • Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish task/test result
  • Report results accurately and in timely manner
  • Rejection and recollection of specimens based on criteria as needed
  • Communicates laboratory test information, results and lab critical values to physicians, providers, nurses and outside clients in a timely manner
  • Participates in continuing education and proficiency surveys
  • Reports instrument or procedure failures, abnormal or questionable results to supervisor or appropriate personnel
  • Participates in required laboratory/facility meetings
  • Reviews required/mandatory laboratory/facility policies or procedures in timely manner

Requirements:

I.Minimum Education, Training, and Experience Required

Associate Degree in Clinical Laboratory Technology or related science; Certification as MLT (AMT), MLS (ASCP), CLT (NCA) or recognized equivalent
