Nalco Water, an Ecolab Company currently is seeking a Principal Chemist to join the Mining & Mineral Processing RD&E team in Naperville, Illinois. In this role you will be responsible for performing and leading research, development and problem-solving projects to enable new product and platform development.You will work closely with anchor and divisional RDE teams to design execute and communicate results. We are seeking candidates who have strong collaboration and teamwork skills, are self-motivated, have good communication skills, are creative problem solvers, and possess strong observation and perception skills.

This position is based in our Naperville, IL office

What You Will Do:

  • Develop and transfer phase 0-1 chemistry and formulation concepts
  • Engage with customers, sales engineers, and marketing functions to translate industry challenges into research projects.
  • Collaborate with across research teams and with field engineers to develop and deploy new innovations
  • Interpret experimental data and communicate results clearly to peers and project teams in written reports and oral presentations
  • Provide consulting on experimental design, mentoring, and work direction for junior lab scientists

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5 years of R&D experience; Master's degree and 3 years of R&D experience; or Ph.D. and 1 year of R&D experience
  • Experience developing innovative chemical technologies, leveraging knowledge of chemical structure activity relationships
  • Travel up to 20%
  • No immigration sponsorship available for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree related to Mineral Processing
  • Experience investigating and/or developing innovative chemical technologies for mining and mineral processing applications, such as mineral flotation
  • Experience using standard statistical analysis software like JMP, Matlab, R, etc. and applying statistical models and concepts to analyze and interpret data.
  • Experience with Python or other programming tools to automate data analysis, create simulations and software tools.
  • Strong problem solving skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
