Performs a wide variety of technical and professional duties to ensure the production of quality images of all anatomical structures for interpretation by Radiologist. Is cognizant of age specific standards. Performs computer Tomographic procedures under the direction of a Radiologist using appropriate professional and technical skills to produce quality images for medical diagnosis or treatment. To meet the staffing needs of the department, as necessary, Diagnostic Radiology staff may be assigned at any of the YNHH Diagnostic Radiology locations, regardless of your regularly assigned work location.

Responsibilities

  • 1. Performs quality and efficient diagnostic radiographic examinations, to provide a source of information for interpretation by radiologist and viewing for referring physicians. Performs multiple tasks on a daily basis as a 'team member' to ensure that exams are completed in a timely manner. Ensures that images are correctly allocated in PACS system.
    • 1.1 Verifies physicians' orders on requisition 100% of the time as observed by supervisor.
  • 2. Operates Radiographic equipment to ensure proper technical results.
    • 2.1 Conducts daily inspection of Radiographic Equipment to ensure diagnostic quality of each procedure, and reports malfunctions to supervisor in accordance with the following scale as observed by supervisor.
  • 3. Prepares examination room ensuring cleanliness and adequate supplies to assure proper and accurate performance of exams.
    • 3.1 Replaces any used supplies immediately after patient is dismissed 95% of the time as observed by lead technologist or supervisor.
  • 4. Performs quality and compassionate patient care, in order to ensure patient cooperation, safety and satisfaction.
    • 4.1 Thoroughly explains the procedure to ensure patient physical and emotional comfort as observed by the supervisor or documented by patient complaints with no more than two documented errors per year.
  • 5. Performs various record keeping functions including, scheduling and accurate completion of exams. Communicates feedback in order to ensure the goals of the department are met and operations run efficiently.
    • 5.1 Schedules Radiologic examinations 00% of the time to ensure proper billing as observed by supervisor and documented by audit
  • 6. Participates in various teaching and/or learning opportunities in order to further his/her own personal knowledge and to assist in expanding the knowledge of others.
    • 6.1 Is receptive to teaching technologists and student technologists as observed by supervisor and input provided from these students.
  • 7. Operates C.T. scanners plus any additional related medical equipment necessary to produce diagnostic and treatment C.T. images safely and efficiently.
    • 7.1 Uses technical skill to operate CT equipment and software, scan, display and manage functions independently and efficiently without need for repeat studies due to technologist error, with no more than four variances per review period as observed by supervisor or radiologist
  • 8. Chaperone patients when necessary

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Graduation from an A.M.A. approved radiologic technology program and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists' Certification, and Connecticut State License. AS required, BS preferred.

EXPERIENCE

A.R.R.T. certification and demonstrated technical skills to meet entry level standards of routine radiography required. A.R.R.T (CT) certification preferred. Six (6) months to one (1) year of Computed Tomography experience required.

LICENSURE

RT(R) certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), (ARRT) CT Certification, Connecticut State License, and CPR Certification required.

SPECIAL SKILLS

Demonstrated skills in use of Diagnostic Imaging equipment, image processing and image allocation. Must be knowledgeable of Radiography exam codes and Radiology information systems including scheduling, editing and completion functions. Must possess good communication, patient care and technical skills. Ability to set up and operate C.T. Scanning equipment and utilize scan/manage/display software programs. Is familiar with routine examination protocols and basic cross section anatomy. Willingness to learn and assist in medical dosimetry is required. Ability to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
