Job Description

As a Journeyman Marine Engineer, you will:



  • Support to the United States Coast Guard at their Surface Forces Logistics Center (SFLC) working specifically with propulsion systems.

A week in the life of a Journeyman Marine Engineer:



  • Assist Senior Mechanical Engineers in design, development, and evaluation of the operation of marine vessels, ship machinery, and related equipment
  • Support the US Coast Guard by reviewing third party design modifications
  • Help with performing design reviews, evaluating constructability
  • Help resolve technical issues, and managing information generated through the design and construction phase.
  • Conduct marine engineering analysis.
  • Create graphical representations of structures and systems
  • Inspect ship equipment or systems
  • Research advanced engineering designs or applications
  • Help prepare technical reports

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant Engineering discipline or a current Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree or a PE license, a High School Diploma/GED/equivalent plus an additional seven (7) years of experience, in addition to other experience requirements, may be substituted.
  • Ability to obtain a secret clearance.


At least 3 years of experience in:



  • Auto-CAD (or similar CAD programs) and Microsoft Suite


At least 1 year of experience in:



  • Propulsion systems; Auxiliary Systems; Fluids and Hydraulics systems; or Ship Support Systems

AMERICAN SYSTEMS is committed to pay transparency for our applicants and employee-owners. The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $90,000. Actual compensation will be determined based on several factors permitted by law.
