Located in our Salem, NH, manufacturing facility, you will be a Health, Safety, Environmental Specialist.
- Responsible for organizing, implementing, administering, and monitoring Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) programs within the scope of Company requirements and local, state, and federal regulations. Identify HSE hazards and establish controls to mitigate risks.
- Typically, dayshift hours with flexibility to cover off-shifts as needed.
- Will be on call (rotation) as urgent needs arise.
Key responsibilities:
- Maintain, develop, and continuously improve environmental programs, policies, and procedures in close partnership with engineering and manufacturing teams, ensuring that the Salem, NH facility complies with state and federal regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and Gates Corporate Standards.
- Perform, review, and revise inclusive risk assessments, including job hazard analyses, with a focus on creating a safe and caring environment.
- Performing, reviewing, and revising HSE risk assessments including job hazard analyses
- Guiding and facilitating investigations on safety and environmental incidents, including near misses and injuries ensuring preventative actions address system causes and not solely individual behaviors.
- Participate in and/or lead internal audits and inspections, fostering a culture of accountability and shared responsibility.
- Use human and organizational principles to drive ownership of safety, health, and environmental impacts, with a focus on engagement, learning from events, and systems-level problem solving Develop new procedures, inspections, trainings, and reports as needed to continuously enhance safety and environmental outcomes.
- Actively work as a key stakeholder on behalf of the Gates Corporation to ensure that Production and Factory changes result in improved controls of risks to health, safety, and the environment.
- Assisting with in-plant HSE work participating in pre-job/task planning and verification of controls/safeguards before starting work.
- Supporting Management of Change by interpreting change requests, advising on HSE aspects/impacts, and assigning/tracking actions to closure.
- Coaching, mentoring and/or directly supervising all team members
- Ensure contractor management protocols are in place to reduce risks with non-routine or non-standard work .
- Support and ensure compliance with all safety and environmental management systems, striving to complete compliance and site obligations on time.
- Ensure site's progress to obtain ISO 14001 and 45001 certifications.
ABOUT YOU
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Industrial Technology, Engineering, or Environmental Sciences
- 5-7 years of HSE-specific experience required, preferably in manufacturing industry
- Relevant certifications preferred (First Aid and CPR, waste management, Associate Safety Professional, internal audit training)
- Strong working knowledge of safety codes, OSHA 1910, and other regulatory agencies; environmental codes, EPA 40CFR, and other regulatory agencies
- Must have experience with environmental permit administration, Behavior Based Safety, HSE record-keeping and reporting, incident investigation (including root cause analysis)
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with an ability to collaborate and engage others.
- Willingness to support overtime, extended hours, and/or weekends as needed.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
